Is this a hack job or should it look like this?
So upon inspection of the support behind the front bumper I came across this. Now the two rusty pieces with one of the worst welds I’ve ever seen are not connected and look like regular flat stock that you would get from a hardware store. Is it supposed to be like this or nah? https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...2320057f2.jpeg |
not supposed to be like that, and you should change the radiator too. its an original one, and when new, it would have been black. they fade with age and usually pop when they get green/brown
|
Another angle, but it looks like the two circled areas were supposed to be connected, I’m starting to think it was wrecked and poorly repaired (dealer said they didn’t know if it was wrecked or not) https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...21ed14c23.jpeg |

its a 1990s Japanese car, they do not use metal like that or even those kind of welds. the body is all thing gauge sheet metal and spot welds. if you read the body shop manual, the spot welds are in very specific places too.

Wow, yea not even remotely close to what is supposed to be there. |
Look around at pics of front mount and V-mount intercooler installs. You should see how it's supposed to look.

So it looks like I’m missing the crush bar, and instead I have a price of flat stock very poorly welded in, can you buy just the crush bars? |
Yes you can.

I’m trying to think why they did what they did to it and the only two things I can think is it may have been wrecked and it was a poor attempt to fix it or would it be related to putting on a 99 spec front bumper? I’m not familiar with what goes into changing from the older style to newer style, as in do you change anything aside from the bumper itself |
Nah, just a terrible repair job.

Hoping nothing is bent ....🙄 |
