Guys need help deciding on which car..

i was looking for a rx7 and now came across 2 fine examples-

1- 93 Fd in red with 35k original miles, bone stock as all hell.. no accidents or bodywork done no fading..

2- black 93 Fd with 80k on body with a rebuilt motor. hooked up running a t78 turbo and misc.. again clean title, no body or paint work

Heres the pisser.. there are both selling for 13k a piece.. dammit which one should i go with?? im going to buy one car this week so someone help!

Yes, I'd most likely go for the stock one as well.

I think you should buy #2, definitely.

PS... want to send me a PM with the contact information for the seller of car #1?

number 1.

build it the way you want it. your research, your choices, your vision.

it will mean more and make it uniquely yours.

For me it would depend on how long ago the engine was rebuilt and by whoem.
I mean if it was rebuilt by a reputable company and hasent done alot of miles since the rebuild and its runs strong/no leaks or anything then i would deffinitly consider that car too..
I prefer black to red also so that would be a factor for me..

sevensix 06-02-08 11:09 PM

whichever is doing better in compression and is cleaner :)

Drifter288 06-03-08 02:03 AM

Number 1 since you don't know how much damage those mods might of done over time and the mileage!

jon4825 06-03-08 08:04 AM

Like sevensix says, I would go with the best compression. I would try to find out how many miles are on that single turbo setup he is running. If it is completely supported with a standalone computer, fuel, spark, and cooling mods it would save you so much money in the long run. Either way I would plan on a engine rebuild on either one.

#1 is a terrific price for such a low mileage example, but you might find that in as soon as 15k miles you may be replacing that original motor. #2 depends entirely on how tastefully the mods were done, how much the owner cared for the car... You'll have to evaluate the quality of the work and the owner's attitude towards the car/maintenance.

dgeesaman 06-03-08 11:29 AM

First, I think everyone is assuming these are both 5 speeds. Auto drops the price by a few grand. If they are 5 speed those are pretty good deals.

Also, I assume both have current compression tests and good coolant seals. Definitely get that checked out yourself regardless of what the seller provides.

If you want a single turbo FD, get that one. If you want something more reliable and stockish, buy the first one. Both sound like a decent value.

my reasoning is that the more stock the car is the better.. i like cars that are unmolested in their original form.. dammit if the low mileage car was black i would be all over it..im pushing for the red low mileage one only because the paint is all original.. while the black one was repainted...

I think this really is the key consideration all other things being equal. I like the sequential twins so I'd go that route. If you are thinking that you'd like a single, then pick up the one that already has a functioning single. That's assuming of course that all other things are equal.

Well, for me i perfer getting the stock one because if u really want to get into it and know part by part and where it belongs, i think u should get the stock one. unless your really fimilar with the engine and know alot about the rotary world then get the black one with all that mods.

axnjaksn 06-03-08 03:26 PM

u gotta ask yourself which one u really want, we can sit here on the forums and give reasons for each choice all year, by ask yourself I mean deliberate the facts of all the good and bad attributes and ultimately which one will u not regret buy and say "i wish I woulda bought the other one"...... thats my advice

Azcamel 06-03-08 05:51 PM

its about maintance...
if the rebuilt engine is from a good shop and has good numbers then go with that, i am a modder and will spend thousands on moding it anyways, so if the mods are done right then its a plus for me. also are they both 5spd?

ZION76 06-03-08 07:29 PM

both 5speed cars.. i think the rotory gods are now swaying to the black modded one..Unfortunatly for the red one, the owner lost the friggen title and has to apply for a new one.. also found out the car was sitting to the point of the battery dying out..The black one has a rebuilt engine with mods..im checking the black one out tommorow at about 8am.. i will take pics and post them here.. the owner of the black one is only selling because he said he almost lost his life in the car somewhere around ocean parkway out here on the island.. he says he has 2 kids and he's getting out of the game..Ive had a total of 8 Rx-7's in my life 1&2nd gens and i know for a fact that you just cant let a rx-7 sit..it has to be driven!!

Dudemaaanownsanrx7 06-03-08 08:10 PM

check them both out, it should be pretty evident how well they were cared for, i would take a higher mileage car that was babied over a low mileage car that never had the oil changed and was raced everyday of its life. They both seem to be decent deals though. I prefer single turbo myself, but that might be an indication of a harder life too. As was mentioned a compression test will tell you whats really going on.

ZION76 06-05-08 02:15 PM

update fellas i went with the black one.. He had the compression tested and the results were 110 front and rear..He was very helpful in detailing everything that he has done to the car.. someone had asked if it had a stand alone.. the one it has is the Apexi Pfc with commander. Im very happy with my choice.. he even went as far as putting it up on the lift to inspect the undersides of the car.. anyway guys i will be posting some pics soon .. tell me whrta you think!
