Finally got the car started this afternoon.... Was so pleased I could burst!

Anyway after the initial smoke cleared I let it idle for a while to warm up, occasionally the add coolant light would bleep but the coolant was full and the gauge stayed at a constant half way.....

Went to the petrol station and filled up, cost me roughly the equivalent of $90 to fill up. While I was filling the gauge started to sore, and coolant began gushing out over the floor. I switched it off and let it cool, then topped up with water and tried to bleed the system abit. I tried it again and it seemed to be ok. Give it a couple of fast runs down a dual carridge way and it was fine.....

Decided to try and get it home and half way there the coolant light came on again, gauge sored, oil pressure light came on......

Game over..... the coolant was over flowing and when I undid the oil cap it was just a mess of white gunge!!

Engine blown??... I think so! This is the first time i've ever drove an RX7 and it was fantastic... well for about 5 or so minutes.

Totally gutted, it's cost me so much to get the car I wanted that now I cant afford a rebuild, plus the only place that does good rotary rebuilds is about 100 miles from me, so the car is sat about 5 miles away from my house at the moment, I just hope no one does anything to it yet as its not even registered and not covered if it's stolen or damaged.

All rx7 tend to get scummy water in the oil filler neck , especially when they havent been run for a while(its not a blown head gasket like a normal engine),, as long as the car didnt overheat you may be ok,,, you need to correctly fill and burp the coolant system before u do anything else

be careful with the temps, to many good motors have been lost because people cant pull over and call a tow truck instead of trying to limp it home.

Is it just me? I'm I the only one who thinks this car should be put into more responsible hands?

Geez, my car made a boiling kind of sound one time as I was testing it (trying to fix a boost problem). I noticed the boiling when I shut it off in the garage (too loud to hear the boiling when running). I fired it back up, coasted as much as possible around the neighborhood (it was night time so kind of cool out), ran the interior fan on HI speed with the heat at max to blow off the heat.

I brought the temp back down, and eased back to the garage. I didn't fire it up again, until I had the cooling system issue repaired. I was worried the whole time that I might have over cooked it. But since then, it has been running fine.

I don't think I would've beat on it after it puked coolant onto the floorboards.

Take care of the car wanker, these things aren't growing on trees! :D

Btw KJL Designs, I noticed your from the UK... come over to mazdarotaryclub.com, its a UK based Rotary Club, I'm sure there will be someone near you that could come over and see your car and help out..

Sounds like you've got a done in coolant seal. You might want to do a search on coolant seal repair, some people have had luck using "stop leak" type products with a very tedious process of flushing the engine out to get a few thousand extra miles out of the car. It sounds like you may have drenched the oil in coolant as well causing the oil to drop to nearly 0 viscosity which causes no oil pressure, make sure you dump and change the oil before driving it anywhere, and hope you havent toasted the bearings etc.

This is not the kind of car that will withstand a lot of "live and learn" situations. Unless you have fat pockets and like to just go play X-Box while the shop down the street does the repair, this car will break you for being unwise with it.

Everyone already thinks of civic owners and SRT guys as asses, don't be one of the few who make people think that th eRx-7 club is full of asses. People are already doing that because of people overusing the ability to tell noobs to search (I understand the same question weekly can get annoying but posting a link or explaining it is a good idea since you already clikced reply, you might as well type the answer as apposed to "search" then a bunch of name calling) So seriously stop being an asshole, or get off the forum.

No, I agree with you on the "noob go search" thing. I am full of dumb questions, and most of the time searching just doesn't get specific enough for me. I'm still trying to figure out how I have been an asshole except for the wanker comment.

I'll be honest, from the little exposure I've had to the British calling each other wankers, I thought it was more of a buddy-buddy joking around with each other, not an outright insult. If its a pure insult, then I didn't mean it that way.

As far as what he did being stupid or uninformed. If you've driven your car out for the first time after getting it started for some time (not sure what had came before this), and while you're out it pukes coolant on the floor, I think its time to add water (which he did) and limp it home to find out why it leaked coolant. Not "run it hard a couple times down a dual carriage way." You can see, I didn't call him an idiot, I said, I don't think I would have beat on it. I called him a wanker with a :D. Just giving him a hard time. Like I would have called you guys a turd or something.

Regardless, you guys don't have to be so touchy. This touchiness reminds me of my wife. Get over it.

P.S. I moved to AL from MI. Do I still qualify as one of the people that make others hate the south? :rolleyes:

hahaha. JyRO i'm sure had good intentions as well. in any case, KJL probably will never do that again. a lesson learned. and i don't believe you can be a hick if you own an FD anyway, so i don't think we need further discussion on that. :)

Just to let me clear this one up with you, I already had my suspicions that the engine was on it's last legs, as when the car first run you could smell coolant in the exhaust fumes aswel as the fact that the engine had 116,000km with no previous rebuild history. So the overheating only reinforced what I originally though. :balls:

Therefore I would rather of had a good blast of the last few moments of the engine than limp it home, seeing though this was my first drive of an RX-7.
