Are the guts from the side mirrors removable?
A couple years ago I was putting my car on a lift and after I put the front right pad in place, I stood up and hit the passenger side mirror. I cracked something inside the mirror. It still looks fine, but it vibrates over bumps and when I go over bumps or down the interstate. The paint is still pretty good so I want to try and salvage the shell.
So basically, can I buy another passenger side mirror and swap the internals? Anyone ever try to take one apart? I hear the mirror glass is pretty easy to break, so I don‘t want to tear into mine only to find I can‘t do anything about it. It's something I can live with, I just would like to fix it. |
I would be surprised if a repair would require swapping the internals. Have you taken the mirror assembly off to check the hardware?

I took the mirror off the car awhile back, and IIRC, the bracket that includes the swivel was cracked, but you can't get it out from the bottom. That was awhile back though, maybe I'll take it off again to check.

if it is a plastic bracket, try a combination of sheet aluminum (cut small pieces to make braces) and JB weld. might not look so hot, but it is how I fixed my headlight covers.

you need to heat the thermal paste on the back side of the mirror ro get it off. u will then have access to the "guts."
|
I have a passenger side mirror if you just want to replace the whole thing.

Easily taken apart - read the manual and all knowledge will be revealed !
|
All the manual has is how to remove the mirror, and the parts diagram doesn't breakdown beyond the mirror as an assembly.
|
Removing the mirror is the hardpart for some. After that it is simple mechanical skill to methodically remove each piece from the "guts". Once you do it, you'll look back and say - that was really easy.

Now report back and tell us how it went. TIP - use a video camera to record your disassembly and store /label your parts in baggies.
