Gurgling coolant at shutdown?
 

Hey guys, I hear the coolant boiling for about 6 seconds after I shutdown the car.....I don't seem to be losing coolant through the tail pipe or anything, and I don't smell it either...and its not overflowing in the reservoir (only if I over fill it)...could it be the radiator caps or a hose?

you have air in the coolant...bleed it....open up both the ast and the main coolant cap....fill the ast to the top while the car is running....cap it....fill the other to the top.


while running the car you should see bubbles coming to the top in both the ast and the main coolant area....

yer just down a bit of coolant and there is air in the lines.

you could need a new cap yes...

Just keep burping / refilling the radiator cap. I had to do this twice before gurgles went away.

well, it's normal for the most part, but it shouldn't happen *all* the time... in other wrods, if you get this even after a short run (enough time for it to warm up, but not exessive heat soak), you may have a pressure leak in your cooling system. The fact that you see no coolant means that a leak in the system is less likely (very unlikely actually), but just be aware.

otherwise, yeah, it's normal.

MAke sure you have the right main cap for your car. I believe the one needed is designed for 13 pounds of pressure. If there is any other cap on there, it will cause some coolant lines to blow because of being overpressurized.
