Guess My HP

I will be performing some mods next week and I started wondering what effects these mods will have on my horsepower.

Then I thought it would be fun to take a poll and see where everyone else thinks I'll end up after re-tuning on the dyno.

See sig for current mods. My last dyno run on current setup by Steve Kan was exactly 300 rwhp @ 12 psi.

New Mods include:

-Elimination of all emissions equip.
-HKS Twin Power Ignition
-Rx7 Stores Extreme fuel system... Competition fuel rail, 1600cc secondaries, etc...
-RP Competition Fuel Pump
-Efini Y-Pipe
-Greddy Pulley Set
-A few other little things that should have no effect on HP.

I'll post the results after I have it tuned/dynoed - hopefully next month.

No one wants to take a stab at it? I'm guessing about 340

xblazinlv 05-29-06 11:02 PM

What boost are you going to run this time? With the same boost, I wouldn't expect 40 more HP since the y-pipe and pully set are all you are really adding performance wise, but with the fuel system you have now I would imagine you are going to up the boost since you can run quite a bit more now.

cohbra 05-29-06 11:06 PM

Probably won't go too much more. I'll trust the opinion of the tuner I guess. I would expect around 14-15 PSI. What do you think?

ehos 05-29-06 11:33 PM

322

cohbra 05-29-06 11:45 PM

What do you guys think should be max boost with this setup?

xblazinlv 05-29-06 11:51 PM

Are you still on the stock twins?

Honestly your fuel setup is good for quite a bit of HP....I don't think your stock twins will put you even close to the limit of your fuel system. Not sure how much is really safe on the stock twins, consensus seems to be 12-13psi at most for daily driving and 15-16 max.

I have no experience with those boost levels so I won't comment, but if you up the boost and add those items you posted above, I'd say you'll get a nice increase in HP. How Much?? No way to tell, put it on the dyno and you tell us :D

VegasFD 05-29-06 11:58 PM

I'd say 320. But then again I have no idea :)

cohbra 05-30-06 12:02 AM

Yes, I'm still on the stock twins. When Steve tuned it last, he said that he wasn't comfortable with adding any more boost because he had already increased my injector duty cycle to 85%.
With the stock primaries and 1600cc secondaries, the fuel calculators I have checked out say I will be good for over 500 hp at 80%. I know that the stock twins can't handle that, but hopefully I can go single in the next year or two. I'm trying to do mods that will help to take some of the cost down in the end.

How the hell are we supposed to guess your hp when you dont even know all the parameters your car will be running? These cars rely on boost, so if you dont know what boost level your going to be running, this is pointless. If your running the same boost as your last run I would say your gonna hit 315-320 since you havent dont that many power making mods. Although your car now has the potential to hit more than 350.

Your running non sequential, or sequential?

NeedFD 05-30-06 01:29 AM

321.5 !!

Matt Hey 05-30-06 02:57 AM

+10 HP Efini Y-pipe
+ 5 HP Greddy pulleys & air pump elimination
+ 3 HP HKS Twin Power Ignition
- 5 HP poor atomization of large injectors
--------
+13 HP total

300 + 13 = 313 HP @ 12 PSI

cohbra 05-30-06 07:25 AM

Sequential

matty 05-30-06 07:46 AM

run 15 psi.....u can make 350ish.

With that much mod I'm surprised he make over 300RWHP. I got a shitload more mods than that and I got only 289rwhp when I took my car to MC racing in KC. to Steve Kan

Brent 94 05-30-06 12:08 PM

315rwhp is my guess if you are staying with the same boost.....y-pipe and pulley don't add much power...maybe you will get an extra 5 hp out of those two things but the tune is what counts. I make 303rwhp with very similar mods....i have a y-pipe and some other little things going in soon as well, but i don't expect much more power. Check my sig for mods......

Cgotto6 05-30-06 12:22 PM

Holy shit. You guys seriously think pullys and the y pipe add that much power? Yea right!

Montego 05-30-06 01:26 PM

you need a MP... a and lightned flywheel

Currently these are you power mods:
Power FC W/Commander
PFS Intercooler
PFS Exhaust
PFS Downpipe
Pettit Intake

It's very impressive that you hit that 300 RWHP at only 12 psi

Most of the stuff that you listed here does not really add power but gives you is the ability to turn up the boost.

Elimination of all emissions equip.
-HKS Twin Power Ignition <--- this will come in handy at the higher boost levels for sure
-Rx7 Stores Extreme fuel system... Competition fuel rail, 1600cc secondaries, etc...
-RP Competition Fuel Pump
-Efini Y-Pipe <---honestly do you really think that is going to make a difference?
-Greddy Pulley Set <---This too?

-A few other little things that should have no effect on HP.

You can turn up the boost but your bottle neck is your stock catback. Get rid of it. Again, with a MP and a lightened flywheel you should be at around 320 RWHP at 12 psi. add the ignition and the proper fuel for 15 psi and you might hit 350 RWHP.

cohbra 05-30-06 03:09 PM

I don't have an actual mid pipe, but what I have is a high flow cat that has been hollowed out. I have a new High flow cat that I used to use for passing emissions in Arizona. Now that I no longer live where emissions is required, I guess I'll look at buying a midpipe.

KeloidJonesJr. 05-30-06 03:11 PM

Pulley set = serious business. I say about 325WHP. Let's get your car on a dyno.

cohbra 05-30-06 07:03 PM

I tried to pay a little closer attention to my boost gauge on the way home from work today and I think I may be closer to 12.5 PSI right now. Hard to tell on the little gauge exactly where it is at so the previous boost pressure I mentioned may be a little off.

Montego 05-30-06 07:20 PM

my boost gauge blows... It's always 2 psi off I go by my profec B spec 2. Not that your sucks but mine does.

If you get a MP get a resonated one I have one now and love it. I had a non resonated one and it was loud ass hell with an aftermarket catback. I lasted only a week with that set up.

Watch out for boost creep too :)

Efini_7 05-30-06 09:01 PM

Yeah, the only power mods are pullies and y-pipe...maybe. Fuel mods won't give you hp, but will help you turn up the boost. My guess is as follows:

+5 for y-pipe (dubious whether it actually adds hp at all, but better flow=more hp)
+3 for HKS twin spark (help with some spark at top of rev range, but more at higher boost)
+10 for pullies (just a guess...some add more than that, some less)
--------------
+18

...so around 320 at the wheel. But if you turn up the boost to 14psi, i'd say getting closer to 340. Of course i'd also say give or take ~5hp for different weather conditions...

FJDRX7 05-30-06 09:50 PM

daaaam, im going back to stock !!!!!

wow only 3 hp for the twin power, u should do some more research,i'll do it for you http://apneablue.com/rx7/ check out his dyno after he put the twin power on it with much of the same mods this guy is going to have. but he was running 16psi and probably tweaked some other stuff but getting over 20hp is pretty good. im guessing 330 at current boost levels.
