Guys,

Would you please advice a good fitment GT Wing for a road race FD ??

Not willing to pay thousands for a wind tunnel tested wing.

Ok so if you're too cheap to buy a real wing than buy the 99 spec wing. It's functional, better than the 93 wing but cheaper than a GT wing. Is a wing really the place you want to be skimping?

Something tells me this isn't going on a race car.

FD racing isn't cheap. And you want a proven tested wing for track.

Just run out of money....

What about something like this ??

http://www.ebay.com/itm/71-Universal-Real-Carbon-Fiber-Rear-Trunk-Spoiler-GT-Wing-Honda-BMW-Drift-New-/321211177888?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4ac9ad9ba0&vxp=mtr
Useless ??

Mahjik 04-28-14 07:23 PM

You want something adjustable, so you can use it to tune it per track. You might send a note to Shine Automotive to see if they have any of their old FRP GT wings laying around:

A good wing is going to cost. IMO, you are better off waiting until you have the money for something decent rather than just buying the cheapest thing you can find.

Stop being cheap, this isnt a Honda.

I'm with the others - take your time and build the car for it's strengths and weaknesses as funding permits. Undriveable, slow "race" cars are frequently born from making many significant changes all at once. It would in fact be a big mistake if you saved/spent the money on a rear spoiler when in fact you take it to the track and find a different component is what you really need at that moment in development. At the same time, keep an eye out there and you might find a good deal pop up.

Ok, you all guys seems to agree...

I guess am gonna have to wait...

There was a time not so long ago you might have been able to score a NASCAR CoT wing on eBay for 3-500, but they get snapped up fast. Make sure you avoid the "show" version if you plan to use it on a real race car.

big country labs wings are awesome and a good value

Used NASCAR C.O.T. Carbon Fiber Wing without Endcaps

ArmitageGVR4 05-02-14 08:34 AM

^^ That's the real deal race spec wing. You can tell because it has 6 rivets holding each of the mounts on and machined aluminum ends.

gracer7-rx7 05-02-14 01:45 PM

Only some of the people on this thread actually know anything about wings but buying a poorly designed one is a waste of $

You might be able to get by with a cheap spoiler for a while. Here is an idea:

I've got to wonder how much "racing" you're really going to do with your race car if you're sweating a few hundred dollars one way or the other.

The delta between a good wing and shit wing is probably less than a weekend's worth of consumables (gas, brake pads, tires, oil, etc) for an HPDE event let alone competitive racing.

Are the Nascar wirngs really that good ??

Am not a wind tunnel expert but they seem to like any regular truck mounted wing.

Am already in contact with Shine and Big Country Labs.

Iīll post some pics when I get one...

Thanks a lot..!

ArmitageGVR4 05-04-14 11:41 AM

They no longer use this wing, it was banned after it was found to generate so much lift when cars spun backwards at high speeds that it lifted them into the air. That's why the market was full of them a few years back. While there's not a lot of public testing data available, the enthusiast community seems to have embraced them as highly functional. They are a 2D wing which is ok but they are typically more effective mounted at the same height or higher than the vehicle roof line. 3D wings are generally more optimized for the airflow over the cockpit area and work when mounted just under the roof line. If you are going to run the car in a specific series/class, you should check with the rules to see what your height restrictions are then pick a wing which best fits your class and mounting type.
