Hey guys i just registered today,

Ive being reading some good info on this site! I am an ex-Corrado VR6 owner....but this summer i was in an accident that wasnt my fault, hence car is written off. I was thinking of just replacing what was lost, but i felt compelled to expand my horizon and take a look at the greener grass on the other side of the fence. Since high school one of my best buds has being building up his s4 TII rx7 ...man i love that thing, around 300whp, standalone fuel managment system, street ported s5 13b, 800cc injectors, its really clean and has the nice stock look. So he got me into RX7's essentialy, what would you ever need pistons for.?? I love the sound, i love the abstract engineering behind rotary and i love the styling of the FD3S. That car is something else....once in a decade you get these phenoms, cars that truely stand out this is one of those cars.

I stongly think the way to go in my situation is buying a JDM FD3S. I have recently bought a 1990 Nissan Skyline GTS4 Turbo through a very good reliable company out of australia. This car is mint, 80k km's on it, dealer service records since new, super clean engine, i was pleased with the outcome.....my plan is to import these japanese cars and sell them localy until january, then i can start reallly shopping for a nice clean stock JDM FD3S. The FD3S is only leagal in Canada when it reaches 15 years of age.

As for the plans for my FD3S.....hehe...you guys know first hand.

Exterior: I LOVEEE the KS Burnout aero kit, i have had a look at your group buy on it. But im still not 100% if i want this kit.

Wheels: Volk racing GTU's, or a nice set of black rims with a polished lip size 18-19, with super sticky low pro tires to go with it.

Engine: Reliability and drivability around 350whp is what im looking for, but never the less i was to rebuild the entire cooling system, clean everythign up so i know nothing is wrong, HKS intake, front moutn intercooler, dual oil coolers, HKS BOV, Fuel managment system so the engien doesnt go boom, ungrade everythign to acomodate the higher HP, debating 99 spec sequential turbo VS single HKS T51R SPL, nice flow exhaust, pulley kit, light drivetrain components, maybe a lower final drive gear for better fuel ecomony....this list will grow

Suspension: Good set of coilovers, urathane bushign all around, strut bars front/rear, RP complete traction kit

Brakes: cross drilled rotors and good calipers, steel braided everything

Interior: a decent yet light sound system that looks clean, carbon fibre interior components, 300+km/hr speedo, take the stock gauges out and replace with aftermarket guages that are actualy accurate, 3 gauge A pillar with boost, exhaust temp, water temp, air fuel ratio, etc, i want to take the abck seats out adn replace it with the cargo holders..but for some reason the JDM didnt come out with those i dotn think..

Lighting: Replace the headlight bulbs with HID's, get the 99 spec rear tail lights and the front turn signals

In the garage: i want to get a 20b streetport and put it all together in my garage, then when the time comes drop it in meehehehehe SC V8 KILLER

Anyways as you can tell ive done lots of research and i cant wait to join you guys in owning one of the best designed car ever made. :icon_tup:

How about you start upgrading with relability mods and modding it properly instead of asking about rims and body kits

Everything sounds about right, with a few exceptions:

You don't want to mess with the final drive ratio in the name of fuel economy, that would be a big mistake.

The 2 turbo choices you mention are on totally different ends of the spectrum. If you really only want 350 rwhp, stick with the 99 twins. The HKS turbo is very large/laggy and is designed to support hp levels double your goal.

Other than that, everything looks good. Best of luck to you, and I hope your bank account can handle FD ownership/modding :)

Don't underestimate the cost involved, even if you do as much as you can yourself. If you were to add up that x-mas list of performance upgrades, how much do you think it would cost?

You can import one into canada as long as it is built from 1993 to 1995. Once the car is over 15 years old, you don't pay any duties on it, just the taxes. If the car is below 15 years you have to pay 6% duty since it was built in Japan.

The JDM (emphasis on the JDM) FD3S is only legal in Canada if it's over 15 years old (not quite yet).

The FD was sold in Canada originally, so it's perfectly legal here, but once a car's over 15 years old you can import pretty much anything.

no, you cant import JDM FDs from 93-95 yet. even if the USDM model is legal originally, you still have to wait 15 years for the JDM model.

he runs that business from Winnipeg here. he is going to japan this month to hand pick a bunch of FDs, and hes going to have them compression tested and inspected before they leave Japan. get ahold of him if youre interested, theyre going to sell quick.

Why would he talk to a importer in Winnipeg....Theres like at least 6 reputable shops in the lower mainland area itself.

When the "JDM FD3S" craze starts..its going to be great..all these kids will crash which means = more parts for mee!

Didn't they start building FDs in 1993? Wouldn't the oldest one be 13 years old?



p.s. I've got a 94 from Europe and it's perfectly legal in Canada.

The FD production began in 1992, it was a transition year, the 1991 FC's were the lest ones and would have been sold into the early parts of 1992, and the FD was introduced very early 1992 as a 1993 model. But it may just go on model year, in which case they'll be legal in Jan 2007.
