Greet me and Ans My FD Questions
Im new here, just recieved these two from Japan. Silver FD is automatic and the other is manual.

I am using normal petrol for silver since its stock. And im planning to use it in future. is that okay? What engine oil should i use, synthetic or non-synthetic? Does a Rotary Engine uses oil while running like a 2 stroke engine? Whts the use of 'Hold' button on automatic shift lever? Fuel consumption is less when one is driving avoiding the turbos to kick in? What would happen if i swap a Manual Transmission ECU to my Auto Transmission FD, how would it run? Does removing the Cat converter adds to power? The distinctive american V8 like grr grr grr grr idle sound....there isnt something wrong with the motor right? The bad throat sound when one presses the gas pedal hard coming from the airpump. are both of those things common? or is it just me? |
I'll try to sort out your questions:
1. Not sure of the octane in Pakistan but you want to run the higher octane. 2. Non-snthetic. Maybe 20-50? 3. You can put 2 stroke oil in the gas tank. 6oz per filled tank. 4. It keeps you in that gear. 5. Yes. The more you keep your foot off the throttle the less gas will be used. 6. It'll still run. You'd be better off just swapping an aftermarket ECU into it. There might be hold problems with your transmission as the cars ECU "talks" to the Auto Transmission ECU. 7. Removing the cat increases flow. Thus more HP. How much is up for debate. 8. The rotary sounds unlike most V8s. We're a brap brap brap brap sound and they're dug dug dug dug dug. :) 9. No clue 10. No clue. |

Does removing the Cat converter adds to power? I strongly recommend you leave some kind of cat in until you really have sorted the car out and you know it won't cause problems. The distinctive american V8 like grr grr grr grr idle sound....there isnt something wrong with the motor right? The bad throat sound when one presses the gas pedal hard coming from the airpump. are both of those things common? or is it just me? Check out the FAQ. With two used FDs dropped in your lap, you have a lot of maintenance to do and quite likely a lot of work fixing the issues created by the past owners. It's almost certain that modding should be left off the table for a while and that you need to focus on getting the cars running perfectly. Dave |
Wow! that was awesome by both of you guys. and im very thankful
Btw Dave it doesnt revs up or down by itself. im telling you about constant idle with that distintive grr grr grr sound , like american V8s have. |
Could you possibly get an audio clip of the car at idle and upload it to youtube for us to hear?

If the idle is constant and sounds like a V8, that wouldn't really surprise me... everyone always asks me if I have an LS1 swap in mine... that's just how they sound.

is RX7's ECU programmable, like through chipping? Cause i have been chipping/programming Honda's OBDI ECUs for last 2 years. Can one learn how to drift using a Auto Trans RX7 FD? |

welcome to the forums! great cars you got there. have fun!

I like the yellow one. The headlights look like a real RE-Amemiya kit, which I do like!:)

It might be a heavily ported engine. They don't have a purring smooth idle.

i was checking with some local petrol pumps here and they told me that the best Octane you will find here is 87~89, and thats it.
91 Octane is only available in another city which is almost 100 miles away. What should i do? |
Well if the engine is shaking as it idles you may have a problem. Change the spark plugs and if that doesn't help get the compression tested.
You should use the highest octane you can. Without it, the margin for safe air-fuel ratios is reduced quite a bit. What octane rating system is in use there? RON? MON? PON? Dave |
is that 87 and 89 MON, RON or M+R/2(PON)?
In the states, we rate it at M+R/2, which is the average of MON and RON. If an American or Canadian says 93 Octane, that'd be 98-100 Octane RON or I think it's somewhere around 85 Octane MON. So if your pumps are rated in MON, you might be okay. Otherwise, I'd advise not boosting unless you have at least 92 Octane in the tank. Also, is there a chance we can have a video of it idling?(in refference to your V8 question) |
