Greddy SMIC rubbing on hood
Anyone else having this issue?
I've got a stock hood and the Greddy/Trust SMIC is installed in what I believe is the only possible place (the bottom tab of the SMIC is bolted to the frame using the stock hole) The upper IC hose rubs on the bottom of the hood where the coupler is clamped to the IC. It's worn through the paint on the hood and it irks me that it's putting such a stress on the IC itself Any solution for this? Is this common? |
My previous FD has this IC and I didn't have any issues.

You are not alone...

I have installed that IC on a few diff FD's. All which required some modifications, at least it required it to satisfy what I thought was a good install. In fact the last one I did was early this month on a FD I did an engine rebuild and tons of other stuff on last year.
Basically it required notchin the OEM battery tray on the IC side to allow the IC to be positioned closer to the battery. Otherwise the inlet on the IC will be to close to the upper radiator hose, which is big bad news it it rubs it. Then just drill you a new hole in the crossbrace for the lower mounting tab on the IC after its in the new position closer to the battery. Go ahead and plan on fabricating a new ram air duct for it too because the mod to the OEM duct is less than desirable. Heres pics of the one I just did. It can fit in the stock location, you just need to remove the rubber grommets on the bolts, and maybe a bracket for one of the oil cooler lines.
