Greddy IC & Intake - URGENT! Professionals Needed for Answer!
Nothing of the sort :D I just think it's a hoot to see threads with the topic "Urgent help needed for dropping boost!" stuff like that...
Anyway, on to my original question. I am wanting the Greddy 2 Row kit but now have the Apexi Intakes. From what I have read the Apexi intakes need to modified to work with this IC. How does it need to be modded and do you think it would be better to just buy the Greddy Intakes that fit with it? I also wanted to get the intake hardpipes for the apexis but only if the modification of the Apexis aren't too difficult and time consuming. If it is the greddy intakes come with teh hardpipes...Soooooo, help me make a decision would ya :D |
|
I have the GReddy2-row FMIC and GReddy intakes, and even that is a tight fit...
|
so who has the two row and what intakes are you using? thanks Tomco.
|
nocab72 (Kyle Bacon) has the 2-row with Apexi intake. Apexi hard pipe intake kit only comes with the Apexi FMIC kit, but he does NOT use the Koyo, he uses a Fluidyne (which has a thinner core). If you're using a Koyo, no other intake will fit other than GReddy dual intake kit (I'm assuming you have twin turbos?).
I use the GReddy dual intake kit with my 2-row. The lower rad hose for the Koyo was modified to use stainless steel flex hose to allow room for the lower intake mushroom filter to fit (just barely!). |
I stuck 2 K&N filters on the turbo inlets themselves eliminating all the hoses ect. It was under $100 and spools up nice and fast now;)
|
Care to elaborate a bit more? what did you do with the extra hoses? and do you have any photos? thanks....
|
CCarlisi: would like to know too... how the hell did you eliminate all the hoses?? doesnt dat suck hot hair to the engine??
|
This is the only BLITZ FMIC pic I found that looks like it's working with the Apexi intakes just fine....BUT the pic is so much from the front I really don't know for sure...does anyone know whos car this is and if there are engine bay pics?

Just so you know, the BLITZ is my second choice...will be my first choice if it fits flush with the Apexis.. :D
|
That silver car is mine, the Blitz fmic works fine with the Apexi intakes. I didn't have to cut or modify anything for them to work. But that bracket that ties the two intakes together at the top can't be used anymore.. which was fine with me because it made them difficult to work with. The uppermost intake that makes the 90 degree turn toward the center of the car, that one needs minor repositioning but the bracket for it still works fine (the one that bolts onto the crossmember). Not sure about the Greddy fmic, I know the Blitz is much easier to install.. you can't go wrong with either one though.

Hi Matt, you are like a God send to be honest...you know when you search and search and still can't seem to find an answer? anyways, thanks...
Another question is, I want to buy the intake hardpipes for the Apexis as seen here on the rx-7 store webpage...will the intakes with the hard pipes work with the Blitz FMIC? and if you have any engine bay photos post those beauties would ya! thanks again. |
I don't think I have any pics of mine but I ran the Blitz FMIC and Apex'i Intakes as well. Just like someone said above the bracket that goes between the two intakes will not work anymore. The other two brackets just have to be custom fitted to bolt to the crossframe. I used a zip tie to hold the two intakes together. I am not sure if you can use the hardpipe kit like M2's since it makes the intake sit in a certain position, where as the factory pipes are flexable and you can bend them a little to make the intakes fit without rubbing. If I have any pics I'll post them.

I am using the Greddy Intake with a Greddy 2-row FMIC. It's a tight fit to get everything in there but it looks nice when it's done. I will try to get some pics up tonight.

Yes it does suck in hot engine air, but I'm not convinced that the apexi, greddy, re or pettit filters do much better. When I have more time I'm going to try to fab a custom box that will draw air from the top of the hood, or the fender liner. |

I'd take a picture of my engine bay for you but it would do you no good anymore, the twins are no longer. I will look in my picture archives when I get back to my place tonight and see if I still have one around. |

And another thing...does the BLITZ piping fit the the greddy elbow or is there a way to do it?
|
The piping does not fit the Greddy elbow, I had to get an extension welded on since the Greddy elbow is shorter than the stock one.

Sucking in hot underhood air doesn't matter if your FMIC core is huge. The huge IC core's efficiency in cooling intake charge air more than makes up for the hot underhood intake air. Air intake speed and volume matters more than air temperature, and the GReddy Airinx does a good job with intake speed and volume.
Pics were taken by Zavier Neeley and Jason Baughman of Rx7 Store. The hard pipe with the dent was replaced. The R1 strut brace was not installed yet. http://66.216.67.51/images/products/...ar/engine2.jpg Speed Sauce Racing Rx7 R1, under contruction @ The Rx7 Store :) http://66.216.67.51/images/products/...ntercooler.jpg http://66.216.67.51/images/products/...cooler-rad.jpg http://66.216.67.51/images/products/...enginedrop.jpg http://66.216.67.51/images/products/...car/engine.jpg |
