Greddy Gauges stolen
 

I just had my electronic 52mm greddy temp and boost guages stolen out of my car (I had them mounted in a tripower center channel pod, which was also stolen). Luckily they left all the wiring behind.

My question is: what other types of guages (if any) are compatible with that wiring. And, does anyone have recommendations for a new pod that is harder to steal or rip gauges out of?

I think all boost guage is universal if you know how to wire them.

so you think that i could get an electronic defi gauge it will work with greddy wiring?

the boost wiring is easy to replace but i don't feel like messing with the temp gauge wiring since it's plugged into the thermostat housing (unless I can leave the sensor in and just replace the wire).

Man, I'm really sorry to hear that happened to you. I'm about to install the same pod (dual) this week-end, but with autometer gauges. Did you leave the car unlocked, or did the SOB break in??

Why noy just claim it under your home owners insurance?

Because it's a car?

Just get new Greddy gauges. The wiring may be quite a bit different if the gauge companies use different sensors. I know for a fact that the Defi Link series wouldn't work as they are controlled by the Link box.

my friend just got money for his cd's that were stolen out of his car while parked at a car garage while being worked on. he got 10 a cd and he had 350 cd's -Ricky

A) If you don't have a homeowner's insurance policy, you shouldn't be spouting falsehoods.

B) If you have a homeowner's policy, I suggest you go read it.

areXseven: they broke in. maybe i'm just really disillusioned here, or does it make more sense to just leave your doors unlocked as long as you have an alarm system and a kill switch (and don't leave anything valuable in the car)? i'm sick of having to pay for broken windows (this is the third time, 2nd in my FD).

rynberg: you're right, i'm sure the various brands of gauges are not compatible, especially the defi ones. i'm reluctant now to get new gauges since i just talked to a WRX owner in my neighborhood and he told me he had his gauges stolen as well about a month ago.

i can replace the temp gauge by linearizing my stock one. that leaves the boost gauge. i am about to install a pfc (which i will also have to hide somehow...) so i considered using the handheld unit to monitor boost. however, from what i read on the forum, it looks like the pfc shows incorrect pressure values. (is it possible to fix this through a datalogit?)

the alternative is to pop the instrument cluster off and replace the oil pressure gauge with a boost gauge (I would relocate the oil pressure warning light). i figure a thief wouldn't notice an aftermarket gauge that was sitting inside the instrument cluster.

i'll also look into homeowner's insurance. although, the deductible would have probably cost me more than the gauges.

was anything else stolen, or just the gauges? generally a stereo would be of much higher value. i guess it was just a smash & grab...

LOL if a thief goes to the trouble of stealing a gauge from the stock cluster, he might as well just take the whole car.

oh, and definitely lock the doors. i bet the number of vehicles broken into that are unlocked is much higher than those from forced entry. this is why i'm glad i live in texas - i can legally shoot at the thieves if it's at night and they're on my property.

i have a removeable faceplate on my headunit and other than that, its just stock speakers. actually, come to think of it, the greddy gauges were probably more expensive. I paid $250 for both of them and i think my alpine headunit only cost me a little less than that.

i used to live in austin. i miss living there, but i bet my FD misses it more.
