Gray smoke from under hood after operation

I have a 93 Touring FD which I purchased about a month ago. The vehicle had an emisions control inspection indicating that there were no exhaust problems, but after driving it for about 30 minutes and stoping, it smokes gray smoke from under the hood.

Is this a common problem? There are no signs of any leaks of any fluids, and the engine temperature is normal.

Was anything applied to the engine during the inspection? If not then you have a problem.

Does the smoke have a smell?

Is the DP wrapped? If it is and was wrapped not to long ago that could be the reason for some smoke....

Or maybe a small exhaust leak.

The smoke does have a smell. It smell like a surface that had oil burned off of it.

You might have your oil return lines for the turbos checked. When mine failed, the leaking oil would burn off causing smoke to rise from the hood.

Next time you see the smoke, open the hood and see if you can notice the area where the smoke is coming from around the engine. That will help try and determine what's going on.

I seem to have the same problem, but mine seems to be intermittent. I'm suspecting a leak around the secondary turbo somewhere, but still haven't been able to really track it down. It only smokes shortly after startup if it smokes at all. There also doesn't seem any correlation in terms of the time the car has been sitting. But it does seem that it at least needs to stand overnight. How hard is it to replace the oil lines to the turbos anyhow?

Wanted to add this....
I've never seen smoke heavy enough to be noticeable while the hood was closed. And it also only lasts for a minute at most after its starts to smoke after startup.

I usually have the hood up when I start the car just to make sure I don't see any immediate leaks (me, paranoid? Not one bit..., who told you to say that to me....) ;)

I also always have the hood up to let the car cool down before I finally shut it off, still leaving the hood up and fans running for a bit after. Never seen any smoke at this time.
