Got hit, Need help

Well unfortunately a guy pulled out in front of me today and we connected. right front is what hit and the bumper, fender, hood, headlight assm., etc are toast. the guy is going to pay for everything so im not too worried since the damage isnt too bad. it looks like i need to replace the frame piece that goes around the headlights and the rebar in the front and was wondering if any of you knew of a good place to get the parts and a shop here in socal that will give me a PROFESSIONAL appraisal. i remember seeing some guy on here that replaced these same pieces and it came out well. any input would be appreciated. thanks

skunks 03-12-04 09:36 PM

why not just cut out that frame section around the light and just have him buy you a HID sleak like kit :)

hyper7 03-12-04 09:41 PM

well the frame part that im talking about is the frame that the light ass. bolts onto. ill try to post pics of her soon:(

talljosh85 03-12-04 09:54 PM

Sorry to hear about this, accidents are always unpleasent to say the least. The hood is really expensive (~$800) from Mazda, and its aluminum so I few if any shops will work on it. I was hit in the snow, the guy put a dent in my hood punched a hole in the headlight cover. The total work for the two was estimated at about $1,500, including parts and labor. I suggest getting an aftermarket or used hood, and getting some used fenders. I don't know about the sub frame, and I don't know any shops down towards Chino or Riverside that do good work, so I'm afraid I can't help you out with those.

PART NUMBER 53-140B OR 54-140A depending on side. get it new from mazda its only like 70 bucks or so. im not a big fan of aftermarket frame/body parts. its called the shroud panel i know what your talking about. My FD has a brand new front end...core support, crosmember, sub frame, im pretty familiar with the front end body parts so let me know. i can try to help you out.

RobertoMartinez 03-12-04 11:41 PM

btw if your looking for a bomb ass body man who works on fd's let me know. its in vegas but well worth it IMO. hes done all my cars. hes redone a couple of wrecked fd's. and the chasis is straight as an arrow.

Bio-Weapon 03-13-04 12:20 AM

Bomb ass? Thats what goes for a compliment these days? Jeez...

Snook 03-13-04 12:24 AM

ill donate any headlight parts you need. I have a "parts" drivers side light here....sorry to hear it bro :(
I kid you not, if someone hit my fd I would get out and fuck them up or at least ruin their month

hyper7 03-13-04 12:49 AM

heres some pics of the damage:

http://pic10.picturetrail.com/VOL310...5/48158562.jpg

well i think im goign to need a core support and the frame pieces that the fender mounts to as well, possibly a new rebar too. i figure ill just do the 99 spec conversion now while im here since it will come w/ the rebar. so if anyone here has a 99 spec laying around ill probably pick it up. i also figured that since my paint was looking real bad i would paint the whole car while im at it as well. now the question is....what color. thanks for the prt#s, if you could post some more pics of those pieces or the other prt#s i may need that would be great. thanks guys for helping a fellow fd stay on the road!

FDNoi2egard 03-13-04 12:54 AM

Is it a bad thing that that pic makes me angry....I woulda fucked his world up....that's not too bad though. It will be back to its sexy self in no time.

hyper7 03-13-04 01:00 AM

you know it does suc but its not worth getting all stressed about since i know it will get fixed. He works two building down from me, and was saying how sorry he was for two hours i was talking to him. shit happens!

RobertoMartinez 03-13-04 01:51 AM

theres two parts with the same name---crosmember one is the bar that runs betewen your frame infornt of the motor and the other is the one that supports the front of your car. the part# for the front one is 53-162 I got mine from mazda for 190$ and the part that you refer to as holding your fender there are 2 pieces the one that holds your shock tower and is welded to your frame is the part# 53-210b or 53-210x then there is a part that comes off of that which is #53-285 or 54-285 which is spot welded to the headlight shroud (the part listed earlier) which then goes to your core support/ cross member for the front. ill post pics of both for you.

RobertoMartinez 03-13-04 01:54 AM

and here you go! dont worry mine is a HELL OF A LOt WORSE. it can be fixed. i just know that i prolly would of fucked the guy up depending on situation. if he was young..yea if he was older and a ass.yeah if he was older and nice i prolly would have yelled a him. if it was a woman my girl woulda kicked her ass! lol dont worry ill help you get your parts sorted out.

RobertoMartinez 03-13-04 02:05 AM

BTW this should help for reference!
yellow=shroud
blue=reinforcment
red=wheel apron
green=cross member

hyper7 03-13-04 02:11 AM

thanks a lot for your help. its a good thing i started a wholesale account with mazda so i can get all the parts together for a good price. so far i think ill need the crossmember, the shroud, and the rebar. so...color? i was thinking winning blue perhaps
http://pic10.picturetrail.com/VOL310...9/48160426.jpg
maybe laguna seca blue...
http://pic10.picturetrail.com/VOL310...9/48160422.jpg

AgentSpeed 03-13-04 02:18 AM

Please not laguna seca blue...
The RX-8 blue is hot!

RobertoMartinez 03-13-04 02:27 AM

you know what i considered as a color is the velocity red mica. from the rx8. the body lines or the rx7 would set it off! im kinda stuck between 3 colors. Saphire blue pearl from the LTD supra, velocity red mica or CYM. the saphire is nice

hyper7 03-13-04 02:44 AM

so here are my color choices:
-yellow (w/ a little pearl to it)
-is300 white pearl
-rx8 winning blue
-possibly a reddish orange color
-laguna blue

heres the reddish orange color
http://pic10.picturetrail.com/VOL310...1/46607514.jpg

either color i paint it, i will be painting my r6 the same color

clayne 03-13-04 06:28 AM

Doesn't really look that bad honestly.

Replace the standard body parts and match paint. I don't think there was any serious damage even done to the support metal underneath.

NukeGenius 03-13-04 10:22 AM

Dang, it looks almost like what my driver side did when I got hit a couple months ago.

MR_Rick 03-13-04 12:19 PM

what you crazy? why in the hell you want to change the color of a silver FD? That's kinda a unique color. but I would go with a different type of silver like the one Mercedez have or like a darker silver (kinda like gun metal).

iceman4357 03-13-04 01:00 PM

man he hit your silver FD. I would have came outta your car swingin. I would be pissed off. Get it appraised and have his insurance company give you the cash. Buy cheap parts online here and make money!
P.S. tell the insurance company that when he hit you he knocked off your single turbo, front mount, radiator, and flux capacitor! :)

POM HB 03-13-04 01:08 PM

The hit aint that bad IMO. Seems almost nothing underneath is damage.....from the picture, so it shouldn't be that bad. I just wanna say too bad your car got hit, but look in a better way that it coulda been worst!

hyper7 03-13-04 05:12 PM

i do want to change the color because im really sick of silver not to mention my paint was shit to begin w/ and it seems silver paint doesnt last as long as others. so do you guys know of a good shop that would be able to give me a good appraisal? i need to start figuring out prices for the damage. i think i can also fix the damage myself to cut down costs for other parts....99 spec or something!

PVerdieck 03-13-04 08:34 PM
