UIM looks great, how was that done? it looks like it might be less upkeep than a fully polished or chromed UIM.

it was sanded enough to remove the cast finish, and then powdered chrome/cleared

no paint involved

I did that to my lower intake and I can tell you it wont hold up to the heat, just in case you were thinking about a compliment. My lower manifold looks like shattered glass.

My powder coated LIM has held up to heat, i have a big single and a heat wrapped DP so it might no be putting off as muh heat as twins would. Also, did you buy the supplies to mke the new mount at a local place you did you order them off the net?

Thanks

it will hold up to the heat, when clear gets "burned" it yellows, if it is cracking, whoever powdercoated it didn't let the clear cure all the way

it looks like it is shattered, you can actually put some heat on it with a heat gun, and make the cracks go away, if you heat it too much, it will clear

Powdercoat softens under the engine compartment heat. When something touches the powdercoat it will leave an imprint. That was my experience with an R1 strut brace, the hood liner touches the brace and leaves black crap stuck in the coating...

why not anodize it???

kinesis has an anodized polished wheel that looks great! Still with a very "polished" appearance. Wouldn't that hold up?

Anodizing won't look good on a especially rough cast part like the UIM and LIM. Even if polished the grain structure of the metal is too coarse and the anodizing won't look good.

The Kinesis wheel center is forged making a much small grain structure. That is the big difference.

turbojeff, there are different compounds of powder, it sounds like you had a non industrial type (maybe a hobby powder)

i haven't had any problems with anything i've done getting "sticky"

I am curious to see if those fender washers will hold up. I was going to just use fender washers, but feared that they wouldn't hold up over time. All the motors force is exerted on the drivers side mount.

How much do you charge for powder coating?

Powdercoating is probably a less messy procedure.
