good place to get custom IC pipes?
 

I am looking for a really good place to have my custom intercoller pipes made. They need to be mandrel bent. Will be having them polished too. Anyone know of a good place. Thanks

I would like to know too. I have been looking for 2.75" pipe and bends, but they are all rediculously expensive in that size.

I'm not looking for a place that sells a box of bends or anything...i'm looking for a mandrel bending place that would have the piping there and could make me what I need

Custom Mandrel Bent IC Pipes
 

I just completed a custom SMIC for my FD. I purchased all of my pipes, couplers, and clamps from ATP Turbo. I had one 2.75" OD aluminum pipe custom mandrel bent and they charged me $37 total including shipping and got it to me in less than one week. Their prices are much cheaper than anyone else I could find and their customer service was great.

I know of a shop in town that does custom intercoolers & piping. I don't know what they charge for piping but they did my whole set up for a good price. The best way to get custom bent piping is to take your car to the local muffler shop and have them bend you 3in tubing custom for your set up. When they're done, take the piping to your local chrome plating place and have them dipped.

I suggest you take a pic of someone elses motor that you like that way they have something to work off of other than your description of what you want it to look like.

Just go to a local exhaust shop and get everything crushed bent, then send that off to get mandrel bent... there is a place in Ohio i believe that does mandrel bending for cheap... gotta find th elink ;)

Choice of Metal for IC Pipes
 

Stainless is a great choice for intercooler pipes because it doesn't absorb/conduct heat as much as other common metals. I also like the way stainless polishes.

However, if you are fabricating an intercooler and need pipes to weld to the inlet and outlet, then you have to go with aluminum because the intercooler cores are made of aluminum and you can't weld dissimilar metals.

FYI, making mandrel bends in aluminum pipes is substantially different than in stainless or mild steel pipes because you have to anneal (heat) the aluminum pipes before bending, otherwise the aluminum will stretch and likely crack.

Have it done in mild steel and then have it plated. IMO, looks way better than polishing. Cheep too. My local exaust shop had no problem making the bends without screwing up the piping. Using a few extra couplers but I dont mind. Looks nice, IMO.
