Good news and very bad news
 

Well, the bad news is someone hit my parked BB 93 RX-7. They bashed the right front Quarter panel, chipped paint, and dented door. I got an estimated $1112 worth of damage for a new right front quarter panel, door repair, and a new vent (is what the part is called on the side?)

The car's paint is in good condition and has never had any body work done to it!


But, the good news is that the person filed a police report and left a note on my windshield (I dont know where the hell I would be right now if he had not left a damn note).

So, it pissed me off but at least they left a note.

Anyway, I was just complaining......

That was very nice of them. The exact same thing just happened to Van Sema and I think his was almost $3k in damage.

Here's what I would do. Call them up and ask if they want it on their insurance. If they want to work it out on the side they can either pay fully or, pay your deductible and you claim it as a hit n run on your insurance. Your rates will not go up!

I believe since they were so nice to leave a note, you kinda need to reward them in some form. If you were to claim it on their insurance and that's that, they may not leave a note next time. Depending on the type of people they are.

Now if you were to do something small for them to show your appreciation, more then likely they will leave a note next time it happens and they will tell thier friends of the happy ending who in return may start leaving notes saving tons of FDs. :)

I'm tired so this may not make sense.

For someone to leave a note is amazing. I have personally witnessed 3 cases of "bash and run" in parking lots... In each case, I waited to see if the basher would leave a note.

None did.

So I got the plate number and _I_ left a note with their plate number, vehicle description, and my phone number. All three times, the person's insurance company called me on the phone as a witness to the damage :)

WOW, you were lucky. The same accident happened to my car parked at a local import tuning shop. The shop denied liability, and the person who hit my car is a shop patron. He refused to pay for the damages (yeah...nice huh?). I guess people are more honorable down south? It's that southern pride :) Needless to say I no longer patronize that shop, or want anything to do with anyone who patronizes said shop...

BTW, my new shop is the Rx7 Store (Hilliard OH). Outstanding workmanship, tons of go-fast FD Rx7 parts in inventory, and outstanding prices. Zavier Neeley & Jason Baughman are excellent men to work with. They are customer-focused, detail-oriented, and will do the job RIGHT--THE FIRST TIME (no come-back jobs, except for the new motor's first oil change :) )

What is the penalty in your area for fraud?

I had a girl back into my FD, while I was driving it, smashing my front passenger fender and the door. They replaced the fender and vent (I think the vent was more $ than the fender!), and repaired the door. They also replaced that black plastic inner fender shield. The total bill came to about $1400, which her insurance covered.
