Are FD's good daily drivers stock? Hell....even if theyre modded....are they good dailies?

EDIT: Quick search...you sure do have alot of cars..including a '94 apparently. Why don't you tell us how it works out. ;)

Well it can be done but I wouldn't suggest it, although I did it for over two years with unpleasent weather and one summer in SoCal with no A/C, so its really a matter of money, how you drive, when it breaks who will drive you, the distance you drive (the don't get good mileage and require premium gas), and capacity (in that it has none). Good luck if you decide to do it, I just wouldn't recommend it. Josh

I've owned and drove two FD's as daily rides. I like to think that I get to enjoy them more than the weekend warriers... But really, ts just like anything else high-strung, you've got to do all the maitenance.

They are GREAT daily drivers. The only problem is picking the right perfect day to drive it,... before it breaks down. :)

I drove supras daily over the past 3 years. 400rwhp daily driven no problems :) (3 seperate ones)

I thought my FD was going to be a daily driver until I beefed it out too much. Now I'm looking for a NA FB to beat around instead. I think stock to slightly modified FDs can be great daily drivers if you dont drive them like you should

No not 3 on the same day. What you don't believe me? '95 na to a 95 tt to a 94 tt. Wanted something new so i bought a FD, whats so hard to believe?

I think they can be a daily driver, but the maintenance is so high so I rather enjoy it over the weekends and at racetracks.

Just ask yourself what you're looking in a daily driver. RX7 is not comfortable, its fuel consumption sucks, it requires very often oil changes, spark plug changes, and spare parts are expensive. And it has problems occasionally with hoses popping off, and the likes.

Its up to you.

I chose Honda as my daily driver. Its the very opposite of what I write above. And I like it, makes my appreciate my FD even more.

I've daily driven my FD for nearly two years now. Only thing I don't like is the leather seats with combination of no A/C. :(

i would never daily drive an rx7, cuz you never know when your gonna go outside and the car wont start for some stupid reason. Plus you really dont want to drive this car in rain, cuz traction will definately be a problem.

people do it... including me :). It's expensive and time consuming.

FD is your daily driver!!!!!! IF....

1. You've got ton of money
2. You're up to it.
and, 3. You've got McClaren F1 as a weekend toy. :D

My point? Sure, it can be, but at cost. And, if you have another exotic car as your weekend car already.

I'm experimenting with this right now actually just to see the differences. I'm going to drive my FD as a daily for the first 3-4 months of owernship to help find all the possible problems.

In two years of commuting in my Toyota Camry...

Midgrade fuel - 24mpg average (XLE V6)
4 oil changes (every 8-15k miles depending how the oil looks) - $120
4 Tires - $240 (mounted, balanced and warrenty and thats for 4 tires)
Brake Pads - $375 (4 pads, installation)

Total - $735 + gas for 2 years...

One month of driving the FD...

Premium fuel - 17mpg
Oil Change (have to do this every 3k, oh and no more cheapo oil changes) - $70 (in 2 years this works out to 12 oil changes or so for me at $840)
Haven't done the brakes and tires yet but brakes are about 2x as much.
Tires around 4x as much and last 1/3rd to 1/2 as many miles. If you only have one set of rims, you're probably better off buying a 2nd set of rims to put commuter high milage radials on.

Total cost (for 2 years) - $4000-7000 (for just tires/oil changes and brakes, using Bridgestone S03s for tires)
Toal cost (for 2 years, w/ 2nd set of rims) - $2000-3500 (including cost of rims)

The Camry has 130k miles on it now. The only major maintenance I've done to it is change the spark plugs 2x and had the timing chain replaced and timing set (at 100k miles).

Most people with FDs even those that drive soft have probably been through at least one engine rebuild by 130k miles and 6-8 sets of spark plugs.

From this you can see that daily driving a FD (35 mile commute like I have) is not practical at all. The added maintenance cost would easily pay for another car.
