Is This A Good Buy?
Alright, I am new to these boards but I am deeply interested in a RX-7 I found for sale that I might or might not be able to get the money for. I just wanted to see what you all thought of it to see if it is a good deal or not.
$18,000 85000 miles on the chassis and 20k on the new engine put in *R1 Spoiler *R1 Front Lip *Cusco RS 2-Way Limited Slip Differential *Cusco Front Strut Tower Brace *Apexi PFC (No Commander) *Apexi BOV *Apexi Dual N1 Exhaust *PFS Cold Air Box *PFS Intercooler *PFS Downpipe *PFS Heavy Duty Clutch *Borla Midpipe w/Muffler *Tokico Shock *Eibach Springs *Defi Boost Guage *Defi Water Temp Guage *Defi Control Unit *S2000 Push Button Ignition *K&N Reusable Fuel Filter *Aluminum AST *Silicone Vacuum Hoses *New Silicone Intercooler Couplers * Nitto 555R Drag Radials *All the normal things, such as CD Player, Moonroof, Power Windows & Locks, AC, Leather Seats, Etc.... *It is in pretty damn good shape with no visible damage done to the interior and exterior of the car. I will look further into getting this car depending upon whether or not my grandparents will give money now that is in the trust fund instead of having it in like ten years when they die (sorry to say). So do you think this is a bargain or what? Also, what area of hp do you think I would have with all of this shit put on it? Thanks a lot, Mitch |
Well, two things will also influence the price: year of the car and who did the rebuild. Another very important factor is the condition of the paint, as a quality paint job will cost more than rebuilding the engine. All in all, sounds like a pretty fair deal though, depending on where it's for sale.
As far as horsepower, depending on the boost the car is running and other factors, could be anywhere from 300 to 340 rwhp. Perhaps more if perfectly tuned and running. Good luck! |
I forgot to add this, it is a 1993 and it just recently was painted a new fresh coat of red
My bad |
*bump*
all i want to know is if this is a good buy, any reply would help, thanks |
Well there are plenty of nice looking 18k FD around, u might be able to find a 94 at that price. So many things determine a good buy or not, you won't know unless you give the thing a test drive and compression test, good luck searching for an FD.

Fu**ing trust fund babies... That would be horrible if you had to wait a few years for FREE MONEY. I know I'll be waiting the rest of my life. I'm sure whoever left that money for you intended for you to blow it on a sports car. You just made me ill. Go get a job and pay for it like the rest of us... I know you said "sorry to say it" but you cant say some horrilbe, ingnorant sh!t like that and just say "sorry". Your type makes me want to not come back home to the land of 10000 lakes. As I mentioned eairlier I have to go throw up sushi now.

calm down laujesse2. i'm getting sick of people hating on others just because some people have it easier than others. i worked for my stuff, like most people, but have friends that are rich as fuck, but i don't hate on them.
|
I would say its too much but lately, the price of fd's have gone up so it might be just about right. I would say a 93 fd should run you about 12-13k although I have been seeing fd's going for as much as 20k!

I'm not a playa haita...

ok, what the fuck is your problem, i know a shitload of kids that are rich but what i claimed is true, this is the only way i will get the car and then you go off and start bitching, no fuck that
yea, who knows what my grandparents will say, after all it is their money now, so i was just wondering if it was a good buy just in case they decide to be nice to me, it's not my fault your country costs a shitload to live in and you guys bitch a lot, i've been to japan and i've seen it |

Well said laujesse2.
Let me offer some advice Mitch, don't mortgage your long term future for present, short term gains. Wait for the trust fund money. Earn the money first, or a substantial portion of it,then find the car. I know, but you want it NOW!! It may also be wiser to buy a mostly unmodified car for less money, then modify it to suit your tastes. Modifications can lead to unique problems and, without knowing their history, may make it difficult to troubleshoot problems. This particular car could be okay, but without knowing its history, it's difficult to say if it's a good buy. On the plus side, you've chosen the correct type of vehicle (an RX-7). Mark |

Could be a little more, a little less. But that's just a guess. Because every car is different. Is it's a bargain? Did you check the blue book value of the car with 85k? Were the doorjambs, trunk jambs, etc painted at the time of the new paint job? Research the blue book value on it, if its under blue book value then it's a bargain. Sad to say but mods and new paint doesn't raise blue book value any. Be a little nicer and more people would be willing to help. Is this car out of VA??? Jspecracer7 is right, you're gramps and grandma were leaving you the money for a future not to wish for them to croak so you can buy a sports car. Kinda greedy if you ask me. And at only 17? You should take whatever you get and invest it wisely instead of blowing it. You're thinking with the mind of a 17 y/o now(I want a cool car) but when you're 25-30 you'll wish you would have invested it. |
This car was repainted the same stock vr color. And yes the doorjams were painted but the engine bay was not repainted. The car is out of VA. As far as troubleshooting because of modifications.......... there is nothing to trouble shoot. ... And my sequential turbo system actually works! It is a great deal ;) Trust me Mitch... if you saw the car you would not pass it up. Personally I would hold off on the trust fund though.

mitch, how old are you? im 21 and i have a full time job and i still seem to get into trouble with my fd and finances. it is a beast to keep up with, especially if you tinker a lot. itll be very costly. . . trust me.
as far as the grandparents thing. . . youre money is youre money. once you get it youll figure out what to do with it. . . then you will learn from your decisions. . . notice i didnt say mistakes. haha. have fun. |
Mitch,
Laujesse2 may not be tactful, but he's right. You better figure on a whole lot more than 18K to buy/run/insure and maintain this (or any other FD). You are doing exactly what most young guys do with money that is meant for a secure future - and I am pretty sure that no one person will talk you out of it. Respect for money is learned. BTW - when you smack it up, I am interested in the LSD. |

RedFD, I thought it was your car. From the pics I have seen the car is beautiful. I'm not trying to cost you a sale, and wasn't dogging the car at all, I was just being truthful about his use of money. And I think that goes for all that have posted.

i don't think he was saying he's hoping his grandparents would die soon so he could get the money, just that he might if his grandparents decide to give it to him now instead of later. and most of us are hypocrites for telling him to save save save for the future. how many of us here are rich enough to not save and dump money into a very impractical, 10 year old car? if we listen to our own advice we'd be buying a used kia and investing the rest.

alright im sorry if i pissed any of you off
here is my financial situation if it helps you out, the trust fund was initially made for me to have so all of college could be paid for, here is the twist, i am probably gonna go to a division 2 school on a football scholorship so i won't have to worry about paying for college with that money, when i get out of school, the money will have invested itself and there will be easily more than enough to get me off on the rights steps to success where i could be able to afford a house or have an apartment for the time being, that is the deal and my grandpa told me a little bit ago he would buy me a car if i got a scholorship which is pretty likely, so i am gonna ask him well why not now i have a part time job now and i work about 20-25 hours a week at around 8.00 an hour, it does the job and i plan on working all of senior year in high school I just want this car b/c i am starting to like them a lot and i think it would be a nice car to have around here in the nice months of the year *sorry laujesse2, for snapping, anyone that calls me a stuck up rich boy is fucking bull shit, my parents make not that much money a year and currently are both unemployed due to lay offs, so anyone that says that can fuck a cow cause i am not a rich boy |
for that price i'd rahter buy a stock 95
|
Oi vai, the tension here is high.

i love all the old guys who flame the kid for having some money laying around. well it works both ways.
if you old guys had worked a bit harder when you were his age, maybe you wouldn't have to grit and claw to finance an FD. just a thought. and there's not one person in this world that wouldn't want the trust fund. bottom line, the kid works and he's lucky. just becuase he worded his question a little ignorantly you're gonna jump down his throat? |
I'm pretty sure that kbb has adjusted their price to an adequate settin now. Last time I checked a '93 touring with 65K miles fetches about $15K. Sounds pretty reasonable to me. Plus maybe an extra thou or two for the demand :D.
