Going to race a viper...

I'm not really into drag racing, but getting some nice footage against a Viper would definately be worth it...

What do you guy think my chances are?! I have twins, mp, dp, Apexi GT spec, RE Amemiya intake (huge), Pineapple motor with Large street port, a 9.5lb flywheel, and a soon to be installed PFC. I figured if I can put down 330hp to the wheels, that equates to about 375hp at the flywheel and 462hp considering weight. However, the Viper is a drag monster. Is there any special tricks or conditions I should ask for??? I allready told the guy I don't want to do it from a launch, I was thinking 40mph. If it's a Viper 1st goes to 60 or so, so his long first gear advantage would be gone. The Viper also has 500 ft/lbs torque, I'm not exactly sure how/where that comes into play, but maybe I should be considering it. Can anyone think of any other factors that might come into play? My friend is going to video this with his digicam and it would be nice to have some footage to add to the forum of a Viper kill :)

Nocab's car was pretty close to how mine is now when he raced that saleen (not sure if he had mp though), the pineapple motor makes a nice difference! I know I could beat it with a single no problem...but beating it with stock twins - That would be sweet!

twinturboteddy 03-04-04 02:24 AM

you will lose

True Story

If you think some exhaust and some "huge" intake will make 330rwhp you are sadly mistaken.

Chronos 03-04-04 02:25 AM

wow, that was a quick responce :)

Did you race one with your current setup of 343rwhp? If so, I definately will.

By the way, thanks for the asshole responce. I've met you in person before and you weren't nearly such an ass. Ofcourse I don't rely on the intake and exhaust, open your eyes and notice I mention the mp and LSP pineapple engine, not to mention being able to up the boost.

stran6781 03-04-04 02:37 AM

Ask Brian Dowling, his website is http://www.rotarypowered.com but he no longer owns a 7. His best run was an 11.42 on 14PSI. There was another guy on this forum that ran 10.98 with 16 PSI but he was going to rebuild anyway.

RX7SpiritR 03-04-04 02:46 AM

Sorry bud but I don't even think your gonna come close to the viper. And to stand up for twinturboteddy, he wasn't really trying to be an ass its just this type of thread comes around all the time with people who think that just because they have intake, exhaust, streetport, and an ecu that they are going to have well over 350 RWHP and be able to whoop on just about everything. It sounds good and I do wish this was true but I'm sorry, its not. I'm not trying to be an ass either just explaining things here. So I guess you can understand where we come from on our standpoints now.

FDreaming 03-04-04 03:32 AM

just gotta ask your self. Do your REALLY want to try to put down that much power on a stock Intercooler?

amuskylounge 03-04-04 04:14 AM

lets put it this way, i have a street port pineapple racing motor, huge front mount, upgraded twins, non-sequential, and all supporting mods. at 10psi i am making 356 rear rwhp. its really not that fast. maybe i am just used to it now. in spring will bring up to 15psi or so and re-tune. i havent had the luxury to race a viper yet. but god do i want to . i think it would be a good race.

Sparo2 03-04-04 04:30 AM

I really don't see you beating a viper with your current mods. Well before i start putting your chances down, what year is the viper? Depending on what year it is it's going to have 450-500 horses. Either way, i really don't see you beating him unless he's a horable driver. Do some research on what year and specs. That'll help you out.

Those are nice #'s bro!

Not really fast...what kind of cars drive in your neighborhood?

black99 03-04-04 05:51 AM

Agree.. The viper with it's huge torque has a bigger advantage starting from 40 mph now too.. He doesn't have to worry about all that torque making him spin like crazy off the line.

black99 03-04-04 05:52 AM

BTW, a Saleen(Unless it's an actual S7) is a far far cry from a viper..

areXseven 03-04-04 06:54 AM

YOU CAN BEAT THE VIPER!.. Just make sure no one is driving it. And if someone IS behind the wheel, ..make sure the Viper is on Stands! :)

Seriously, it wouldn't be close unless he or SHE mis-shifts ,..and you don't.

Wargasm 03-04-04 08:12 AM

If this is an older R/T10 and you run about 14 PSI without blowing up, my money might be on you.

If this is a GTS Viper, I think at best you will hang close and not look slow. -- This is if you can muster 14 PSI without popping. :)

If this is a brand new Viper, sorry but you will lose.

I raced a GTS Viper a few years ago when I had very similar mods to yours. I had intake, dp, mp, cb, M2 ECU, 14 PSI, stock motor. I was dead even up to 130 where we both had to slow down.

FormerPorscheGuy 03-04-04 08:13 AM

Isn't this in the wrong section?

Snook 03-04-04 08:31 AM

if you have the stock intercooler then you cant really go above 12-13 psi safely. If you did have an aftermarket intercooler and tuned for 16 psi on pump gas you could have anywhere from 370-400 some hp at the wheels.
A viper isnt god. Trust me I speak from experience having one in our garage for 5 years. my last rx7 with intake and full exhaust with pettit streetported motor and pettit ecu at 12psi was faster than it. 96 rt/10 btw. You definitely have a great chance and you may win but at the worse still wont be left too far behind. the viper is a beast but the rx7 is one of the fastest cars ever built with the light frame, great body for high speeds, and easy hp gains with increasing boost its really hard to beat a well setup 7.

MRV3 03-04-04 08:55 AM

or maybe u can try to win the viper on a winding road, i believe a 7 will handle better. on a straight line.....flat chance.

DeaconFrost 03-04-04 09:15 AM

You will want to brake boost so you can have a better chance from a kick. and I would suggest going from a 45 or so. if it is cold out or your tires spin easily, I wouldnt brake boost more than 4-5 psi, you will just spin and it sucks.

artguy 03-04-04 09:37 AM

do your fuel mods and IC...and run 17 lbs of boost.

with yer current setup yer gonna get smoked.

:)

my thoughts exactly...TAKE HIM SIDEWAYS!:D

GOOFYROTOR 03-04-04 11:46 AM

not true fellas, it depends WHO is racing it.
if its the little old lady in pasadena, he might have a chance. due to slow reaction time, pushing the throttle to the ground and eye sight.

Trout2 03-04-04 12:03 PM

Chronos - Not to be an ass on top of all the others but all you did was name a bunch of parts on your car. Unless that PFC is tuned to make them work together, you will not make the rwhp numbers being mentioned.

amuskylounge - Myself and I'm sure many others would like to see that 356rwhp at 10-psi dybo sheet. You must have ben tuned by Peter Farrell and Don't Be a Rikki to make that kind of power on such low boost.

XSTransAm 03-04-04 12:11 PM

without an intercooler the only way your gonna win is if he completely fucks something up... and the size of your intake means just about nothing. sorry man but dont put any money on this race... the vid will be well worth it tho IMO :) i love vipers!

iceman4357 03-04-04 12:17 PM

my buddy beat a viper with his supra. All he had was an intake, 4in-full exhaust, and a boost controller. I dont know if you will win, but there is only 1 way to find out! Be careful though cause if you loose it will make you mad and wanna dump more money in the engine to kick his ass next time. There was nothing better to see the look on the guys face when we smoked him in a 6 banger!

zensokuracer001 03-04-04 12:18 PM

Race on hopes and dreams. thats what civics do.
