Goddamn Wastegate!!!

I am trying to switch out a wastegate on my car, and I am having a hell of time getting my hands/wrench juxapositioned. It is a blitz single turbo conversion, with a big ass blitz wastegate (E56).

I was hoping to be able to pull the blitz wastegate off while leaving the rest of the turbo kit on the car. Then I was going to have an adapter made, so I could put a HKS Wastegate on. However, after fooling with it for several hours, I can't see how I am going to squeeze my hand/wrench in between all the other shit to get the thing off. I really do not want to pull the entire turbo kit off, just to remove the wastegate. And it looks like the turbo manifold bolts are just as well hidden.

Anyways, I think I am just venting frustration here. But if there are any skinny handed contorsionists, give me a holler :D

When all else fails, GET THE BIGGER HAMMER! :D

Just take the rest of it off. If it makes it easier...

Okay,

It pays to know someone with small hands. Came right off. :)

Next dilemna. I opened up my blitz wastegate, and it appears to have a spring that is very similar to the HKS one. Can I interchange the 2? Size wise the girth looks about the same.

I am guessing that the wastegate is controlled by how many turns the spring has, and height of the spring. I.E. if I have a shorter spring with less turns, it should open up the wastegate at a lower psi correct?

Whattya all think?

Not yet, but I will now that I know its there.

Anybody got an answer on this spring question?

All things being equal (meaning spring coil thickness, outer diameter, etc.), a shorter spring with less coils has a higher (stiffer) spring rate. I don't know what that will mean for the wastegate, though.

I think, I am on the right track with HKS spring. However, I am having a hell of a time getting the dump tube screwed back in though....No play in the pipe. It's killing me
