GM Map sensor...will it work on an FD?

My friend has a 93 and bought a GM 3 bar map sensor. I guess he's trying to get more boost. Will this work?

what kind of ecu is he running?? It works with the Power FC but you need a datalogit to change the setting, don't think you can do it on the commander. I'm assuming he has all the appropriate mods to support using that high of boost also...

From what I understand (which is not much) the GM 3Bar map sensor will work with the FD...I know a few forum members are running it. Probably lurking around in the single turbo forum.

Thing is, if you are running more boost you should be sure that you have the supporting fuel / IC mods to support it.

If it's stock twins I believe the stock map sensor (17psi limit) should be plenty.

Be careful, don't blow her up!

Thanks guys. I'd hate to see an FD blow. Wish him luck!

Can you change you settings with the commander? Just want to confirm before I tell him it's ok. Thanks!

weaklink Jul 14, 2003 02:33 PM

yes you can change it with the commander. look in the pfc section. you do not need a datalogit.

Thanks weaklink! Later guys!

yes, many people buy the GM 3 bar map sensor if they plan to boost higher. I have one.

I just want to clarify that I'm not saying the GM 3 bar gives you more boost...no impact whatsoever. It just helps you read higher boost so if you have a PowerFC/Datalogit like me you can change the 18-20 columns to better take advantage of ranges above 15psi or so.

Question for me....I tried to get boost up to 17lbs while on the dyno last week but couldn't. How come? Topped out at 15 or so. I'd like to see if I can get close to 400rwhp.

Can some one tell us what the part numbers are for the correct sensor and wire plug ? And how to match the wires to the plug ?

rxrotary2_7 Jul 15, 2003 07:20 AM

search the haltech section duboisr. or ask garfinkle. ;)

i beleive the 3bar comes from a 87 1/2 ish turbo transam??? i forget...

GM part #12223861 for sensor and
#12085502 for harness

homie Jul 17, 2003 04:27 PM

How can I change the settings on the commander? Is there a function to recognize a 3bar map sensor is now in there?

streetdreamzny Jul 17, 2003 05:15 PM

you can find the map sensor at http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/ it's about half the price on the web than if you went to a dealer

homie Jul 17, 2003 05:21 PM

The map sensor is in the car, but it won't boost over 15lbs. Boost cuts off after that. How can I bypass the boost cutoff? I thought replacing the sensor with the GM would do that?
