glovebox removal
 

I've read a good bit about people having problems with their gloveboxes, and it seems like since the storage space is so minimal compared to the two rear bins, why not just get rid of the glovebox. Also, I'm 6'1 and when i sit in the passenger seat, or a friend of comparable height sits there, the leg space is so cramped because of how low the glovebox sits in relation to the floor.

I havent had any problems with the glovebox locking up or anything, it works perfectly fine. I took the glovebox out today, and I think I'm gonna try to have something fabricated to nicely cover the guts that lie behind the glovebox. Has anyone ever done this before to add some more leg room??

Sounds like a decent idea. I know the forum member Sarge had gauges mounted in his, all angled towards him, it looks really sweet. Not sure how it would look completely replaced, but modified it could be cool.

well with the glovebox removed, you definitely notice what seems like twice as much leg room if you're tall. It allows for more room than even on the drivers side. My thought about removing the whole thing completely, first came a while back when I couldnt fit the leather case with the owners maunal in the glovebox. After that I just thought it was a waste of space, and could add some more room removed.

It would be nice though to have some guages in the glovebox facing me, but i'd always have the fear of my g/f throwing her bookbag in the car and smacking the guages.

Can I buy your box if you decide to do it =P

i'll consider it definitely, but i'll make that decision after i've put something in it's place. I'll keep that offer in mind though

my latch is broken on my glove so I'm just gonna pull it off, how many screws to remove it?

my glove box has been stuck for as long as i have had it. I think the lach is just stuck cuz it is defently not locked. What have you guys done to get it open?

When i removed the glovebox, i was curious to see what it looked like when the handle was removed. You can remove it but the two screws are on the inside. When removed though, there was a simple lever that runs horizontal, and runs through the middle of the cutout for the handle. If your glovebox is stuck and you think your handle is just broken, you could either try and slide something around the handle, not sure if you can but kind of like a using a credit card on a door (The lever has to be pushed down to release the latch.) Or if theres no way to slide something around it, just break the handle, it looks like pretty cheap plastic, and shouldnt be expensive

I havent tried this with the latch still engaged, but there are two screws at the back lower part of the glovebox, on a swing assemply to raise and lower it. Remove those two screws and see if you can get it to swing down from the back only attached by the latch. That would give you some "blind access" to whats insided.

the oddest part of the deal was laying on my back, upside down in the passenger seat. That was a strangely comfortable way to lay down for ten minutes

Just changed my glove box handle assembly couple days ago...Cost was less than $10...you CAN buy it with out the key/lock and just swap the old one...

Just thought someone might want to know...

My glove box is slightly crooked - latches and locks ok, but at night w/ the lights on, the glove box light is on - I've rigged it w/ spacers where the lid meets the switch, but never stays - anyone have a better solution to this problem? Is there some adjustments that can be made?

I've tightend the screws, but that doesn't seem to help.
