glove box Adjustment?
 

hi, i need help with my glovebox. the left side hangs down lower then the right side and the whole thing is a little loose, i tightened the scres on it but they were tight. i figured the the latch could be adjsuted to make it close tighter but there was no adjustment. is there something i am over looking, and tips advice will be greatly appreciated. also my ligth does not work in the box, and the bulb is fine. what is a common problem. my interior lights work so i dont believe its the fuse, once again thanks for all your time and help, scott

well, i found out the latch on the door part is loose inside, maybe if i tighten it it will help the door part, just have to figure out how to get to it. the light part is really tricking me since all seems to be go jsut no power getting to it, does anyone know where the power sorce comes from, thanks

To adjust the glove box, here is what you'll need to do:
The latch loop needs to be bent a little more (be careful not to bend it too much) this will close the gap overall.
Bend the two swivel joints at the base of the box, for this you will need to remove the box to do it. Bend it back ( just the left side in your case, again not too much) get youself a washer or two and insert it on the box side to shim it up.

The loose latch may not be fixable, if that is the case then you will need a replacement.

If it gets worse (on the 93's only) the light won't even go out when you close it. Mazda issued a TSB for this:

1. GLOVE BOX LIGHT FAILS TO GO OUT.
Service bulletin #04293 Category S, issued 10/21/93

Replace lamp cover with modified design part # FD0164170A

The part can't cost more than $10, I believe it has the latch hasp and light switch pluger integrated, but I'm not 100% sure.

That TSB did not fix the problem. I ordered my "improved" lamp housing from my local mazda dealer 2 years ago, and it did not fix the problem completely. It still intermittently shows the light. I then just fixed it with some black black felt that i had to keep more pressure on the switch. By the way I ordered the part and it was $24, when I went to pick it up they wanted $46, but the service manager honored the original price. What a piece of sh*t, $24 and it still doesn't fix it.

My Box was loose & the light stayed on. The mounting post where the hinge screw goes into the Box/Door was cracked and flexing I repaired it with "Plastic Weld" two part adhesive I got at Pep Boys, Regular Epoxy won't stick to the plastic Mazda used for the Glove Box.

thanks for all the help full responses, bending the latch helpled tighten it up, but i am not sure what you meant when you said bend the bottom hinge back to tighten up the left side. i still cannot get my light to work, it just seems to get no power to the switch, so one day wehn i get some spare time i will trace the wires to the power source for the box, thanks for all the help, scott

Psh, I had this problem...I just used one of those small black circular adhesive pads where the light hits the glove box. You know, the pads you put on the bottoms of things you don't want to scratch wood. About 1cm in diameter, 3 mm thick. Works like a charm. Costs something like 40 cents for a sheet of 12.

I had no need for that :gay: light. Pulled the fu**** out and through it away.


If the latch screws come loose in the door, you will have to cut it out to reach them. Epoxy everthing back in. Mine came so loose, that I had to the cut the metal loop to remove it all.
