Getting a third gen
Im looking at a third gen with 91k miles on it. Now my question. Is 14k a good price if it comes with a 3 year 36k mile warrenty that covers the engine and tranny? The car was just repainted and looks really clean on the outside and the in. I dont really think 14k for a 93 touring edition with 91k miles on it is a good deal even with the warrenty. What do you all think?

i bought my 3rd gen with 90k miles for 13000 with no warranty. If its in good shape I say buy it.
|
Well the guy also has a Montego blue one with a fresh motor for 15k with a warrenty so I think Ill go with that one.
|
I'd find out why it was repainted first.... never know could have been in a nasty crash... :)

buying from LA Motorcars? :D
|
Indeed:) Lance is a great guy.

Hey hybridracer I was considering LAmotorcars as the first place I would go to buy an FD this summer. What do you know about the warranty? I have heard that the warranty is not actually a warranty but some sort of contract? The main reason I am looking to LAmotorcars is because of the warranty. Anybody else who has feedback about Lance and/or LAmotorcars feel free to chime in. By the way I did search already but wanted some fresh opinions. Thanks in advance.

Read the fine print. Does it cover the turbos?
Is the warranty nullified if you mod the car? |
I bought mine from Lance a few months ago with the 3yr 36 'warranty'...very happy with the car.
|
WHAT THE HECK R U TALKING ABOUT?? THAT'S A GREAT DEAL!!
|
haha more people like you are exactly what people like me need! God if you can't see this is a great deal, you deserve to be driving a civic haha
|
I agree this is a great deal tho...sorry I didn't state that earlier in thread. My advice is to ask Lance to have Rotary Performance perform a compression test and anything you can think of pre-purchase. He does an ass ton of business with them and gets good prices.
|
Engberg have you happen to use your warranty yet? any outstanding details in the warranty that would void it such as modifications? Also does it specify what kinds of mods would void the warranty? thanks again

Don't get warrenties, especially if you plan to upgrade anything. I use to work for a warrenty company, and you wouldn't believe what they will go through to not pay out.

I had Ryan Warranty Services and they paid out a lot of money on the car. They will not cover a modified car AT ALL.
When my tach went, they tried to refuse it because the previous owner had installed an aftermarket alarm. The alarm was gone, but the spliced wire was still there. I got it covered in the end. :) |
Matt, speaking of why it was repainted...I know for a fact the car was in an accident at one time. If you look at the front bumper one of the sockets for the headlight assembly is off the the left about a 1/4 of an inch. Either way it is clean, and seemed to run find.
Again, i'd have Don check it out before buying, he can do a full car over look with compression check for like 50-75 dollars. |
Meh, I dunno, I dont want to get a car then find all these things with the motor Id have to get fixed then have all this down time on it. Id rather get one that I know for a fact has a good motor and I wont have to be replacing a lot on it even if it is covered by a warrenty. With that said, I still dont even know if I will be getting one anytime soon due to this damn war that has just been started.

What I did is told Lance the price I wanted, and what specs I wanted and what I didn't want. In the end he found everything I wanted for cheaper than the price I set. It may take him time, but if you are looking for a solid car in good shape at your price Lance will find it.
As far as the 'warranty' it is a service contract. Which means they can void that puppy at the drop of a hat. My boost gauge may even void it! They aren't held to the same laws as factory warranties. (ie, even if the problem isn't tracked to your mod they can still void it) I don't really plan on using it as the Mazda dealerships are not an FDs best friend. But it makes a statement about the car. Some cars Lance has they will only warrant for 15K miles. He even had them warrant some modified cars....sooooo this company could be different. My car is garaged up right now and the info is in it other whys I'd give you more facts. Call Lance Adams and shoot the shit with him for a bit about it. |
I have the warranty through Lance and had RP replace some rear bushing for me...all under warranty. They will void it if there are any mods to car, but that would mean they need to send out someone to inspec the car on the claim. This doesn't seem to happen too often unless the claim seems unreasonable. It does include turbo's, AC, etc. I have an AC problem now that I will be attempting to get covered next week.
All in all, I have really come close to recovering the warrantee costs just with the bushings. Just depends on the car...basically stock, get the warranty in my opinion. However, be sure to have Don or RP seriously check the car out. I spend $100 and got full compression check and dyno runs before I bought mine. |
