Getting sick from the fumes
Anyone else with a midpipe / downpipe / no cats getting sick from the fumes in the cockpit? I bought a lime-scented air freshener which helps a little, but I swear my throat gets constricted, and I get congestion and start spitting up stuff. These symptoms occur when I'm driving for extended periods of time, or just standing outside the car as it runs. Yes my garage door is open:) And I vent the sunroof / windows when I can.

my downpipe is backing off the studs, and right now its SO bad i cant use the a/c vents cuz of the fumes. You got off easy! :)
|
I am most definitely counting my blessings; thanks for putting it all into perspective:cool:

The midpipe is awful with respect to smell. If I do not open the windows while driving. I will usually spend most of the day coughing up a lung, and or having a headache. I am seriously considering a highflow cat. Is there any other way to prevent these exhaust gases from getting into the cabin?
|
So you guys all used NEW exhaust gaskets, right? :)
|
it doesnt bother me at all while im driving. but when i let it worm up in the mornings it gets pretty bad. but it doesn't bother me.

Just buy a hf cat. I don't see the issue.

Originally posted by Jesuscookies I did. the stench is down right awful. I can see it coming up thru the tranny tunnel, and thru the vents if I have the air on. I have dp/MP/CB and i dont have a fume problem. |
Duh, just wear a gas mask while in the car. Problem solved! Maybe you'll start a new ricer trend.

alot of fumes come from the shift boot.
check that to see if it's sealed properly. you will always have a nasty smell but shouldn't be to the headache level. |

Originally posted by Jesuscookies Better yet, I'll just shove the gas mask up your ass, and your can start the trend. |
You guys are inhaling some serious cancer causing fumes here, get a HF cat! If you told your doctor what was happening he/she would probably freak out.

Switch to race gas it smells nice......

There is no reason for your interior to smell at all. The fumes are getting in from an open grommet or torn seal. Find it and it will be gone. If it gets worse when you open the windows, they it's probably in the hatch somewhere. Pull all your trim in the hatch and work forward from there.
I had the same problem. One time it turned out to be the grommet where I have the wiring for th trailer hitch, the second time it was the grommet where the hose for the rear remote reservoir came through one of the shock towers. I never imagined a hole in the rear shock tower will bring in fumes, but it did. With in seconds of fixing the grommet, the fumes were gone completely. I run downpipe, midpipe and RS-R catback. No smell at all. Basically there is a leak, find it, backtrack to when did you start smelling it, what did you do on the car after which it started? You will narrow the search down that way. cheers W |
Also, aren't there some cabin pressure exit vents towards the rear of the car, down by rear wheels?

i have a MP and the only time i have a smell prob. is while at a light stopped, the windows are down, and the wind blows it back in.
even so, i'm getting tired of it, so if anyone wants to trade a high flow for my MP with borla xr1, PM. |
I only get fumes when starting up. I don't get any problems when at speed, and you shouldn't either. I don't think a dp or mp would cause fumes to enter the cabin at speed.
