Getting ready to start engine for first time, question on clutch

I got everything set up and am ready to start the rebuilt engine for the first time. I put in clutch fluid and did some bleeding. I am pumping the clutch and it does retract by itself, but it doesn't start to engage til the near bottom. Therefore, there is way too much play on the clutch.. How do I fix this? Before I took the engine out, the clutch would start to engage uptop where it seemed it should. (Bought it with blown engine.. Haven't even driven it yet)

Thanks,
Jason

There is a height adjustment on the piston rod that connects to the clutch pedal. Just make sure you leave a little play when you adjust it. Loosen the lock nut, and lenghten the rod until it starts to push the piston in. Then back it out ever so slightly, and tighten the lock nut. Many times, aftermarket clutches don't "fit" like stock, and you wind up with a pedal that is lower than you would like.

Ok, I know how to fix the clutch, but now I can't get it started... It just clicks once, and thats it, doesn't even try to turn over. I can't figure out why. Had the starter tested and it pass. What am I missing?

Perhaps your battery is weak/dead. Try to jump start it ;)

Brand new battery and freshly charged

its def ur battery...if its clicking and just making that noise with out even trying to turn over...ur battery is dead...if u r trying to run a yellow top or red top...sometimes if u try charging it urself i will say its charged but its really not...optima had some problems with their batteries recently it needs to be charged off another battery...if ur not using a yellow, red, orange top then if when u charged ur battery did it charge fast or did it take a long ass time to charge? to see if its the battery just do as they suggest above jump start it...i bet it will fire right up :)

make sure your grounds good. Mainly, the one from the wiring harness to the engine block. I've had the same problem. I had forgot to ground the engine block...

U referring to the one on the back of the UIM? If so, that one's hooked up, if not, which one u talkin bout?

No, it's not an Optima battery... Will be getting one though. I let the battery charge over night so I don't know how long it actually did take. Nothing dims on the gauges when I try to crank it, so I don't think it's the battery itself..
