gauge removal

I'm trying to take out my gauges and have ran into a little bit of trouble taking the plastic out. I need to get the gauge surround out still and plastic guard around stereo as well. I really don't to break any of this flimsy expensive plastic. If someone has a link or directions that would be swell.

The corner of the A/C panel is behind the gauge cluster. You need to pull the gauge cluster as well to get it out. You can see the tabs on the left in my old photo attached.

I was able to get the gauges out, unfortunately I busted the cowl (or meter cover) into a million pieces. I did what was suggested. pull the dash straightforward until the spring clips pop lose. It was an epic fail. I had seen after i removed the debris that the spring clips had been shoved back way to far, past the point where they were intended to be a spring clip and permanently stuck behind their counterpart . Maybe if I had the experience of doing this before I would have know or thought of a better way to get those out. I'll post picks tomorrow of my experience. Maybe it'll help someone in the future.

sometimes the years of sun rays beating down on the cluster hood makes the plastic too brittle, so it will crumble no matter how careful you are.

rehashing an old thread here... but somewhat related. I want to make sure I don't break something...

The button that gets our headlights to go up and down unfortunately has ... fallen in. I'm not sure if its usually a screw or what that holds it in.. but it has come loose (or if glued, its fallen apart)... so the whole button is now about an inch or so inside the dash.

Is there an easy solution to this? Can I just remove a small part of the dash to get to this button and screw it back into place?

thank you

2 screws hold it into place. Most likely over time the screw holes broke. I believe you will need to jb weld or use some sort of epoxy make screw dowels?.

I believe you will need to pull the cluster for this. You can pull the driver side dash/vent off easily to see if you can get it back there... but I doubt it.

hopefully its not necessary to remove the cluster... Any advice on how to get the dash/vent off without breaking anything? :)

thank you
