is the gauge bad?

Is this gauge bad? It dosent read 0? having boost problem just wondering

RxSeven1 04-03-04 08:17 PM

more than likely. take it back.

If the gauge is mechanical then it should be at "0"

black99 04-03-04 09:34 PM

I agree it's off. Either tell the seller and ask for money back or since I know you shouldn't have paid much for that in used condition maybe chalk it up as lesson learned and buy a new one.

XSTransAm 04-04-04 03:16 AM

take this chance to buy a good gauge ;)

No, the guage is not bad (assuming it's a mechanical guage. If it's electronic, it might have a problem). Atmospheric pressure all around us registers on the gauge. If it read '0', it would be a bad guage. Mine, as well as most on this planet, read the same.

i didnt know we lived in vaccum :-/

Quickfini 04-04-04 12:39 PM

Maybe the hose is just kinked and the air remaining in the hose is lower than atmospheric pressure. If it were at 0, it would just be the same as atmospheric. I know mine reads 0, but it's on the lower side of the box, not right in the center.

mmonaco 04-05-04 01:26 AM

Well its not a self zeroing gauge. So differnt atmospheric pressures ie altitude will change the gauge. My greddy gauge is off by a little bit but match the logging on the haltech when the car is running.

spoolin93r1 04-06-04 05:48 PM

i got a defi d series boost gauge and it sits almost one 1psi

snagalittle 04-06-04 08:52 PM

Ok thnaks guys. I didnt thank it was bad but didnt know for shure. Just found out i need new turbos. :-(
I dont know what to do yet. it runs fine just not a lot of power. I might save my money and go to single.

XSTransAm 04-06-04 09:08 PM

im confused? your gauge is bad if that is a reading with the vaccum disconnected... why do you think your turbos are bad?

tt2323 04-06-04 09:58 PM

Here is a pic of my wonderful autometer gauge...talk about off! This was after a few months of use...

Raziel 04-06-04 10:28 PM

My defi gauge reads a lil off too.

snagalittle 04-06-04 10:33 PM

i took in the car today. they said i was in need of new turbos their gauge read the same as mine did.

mmonaco 04-06-04 10:36 PM

LOL, if they say you need a new turbos because your boost gauge reads on one side of zero when the car is off you need a new mechanic.

SNracing 04-06-04 10:50 PM

why do you need new turbos? were you using this gauge to troubleshoot?

tt2323 04-07-04 09:33 AM

If you mechanic doesn't know rotaries you need a new mechanic...why spend money if you can find all the info on these forums :)

XSTransAm 04-07-04 09:47 AM

who did you take the car to? I can almost gaurentee you that your turbos are fine. What premise did he have to say they were cooked. Please for the love of god dont spend a dime yet.
