I never really thought about this mod before. Seems like a good way to seal and add some support to the motor.

One question though. I am assuming that this also raises the motor as much as the spacer is thick. Is there any issues caused by this? How thick is the spacer?

I've installed many engines with the Gotham brace, which is similar to this. No problems with the install at all.

The Gar brace looks very nice, the milling is indeed a new touch. The revised Gotham braces have the 10mm bolt holes slotted to account for fitment issues, otherwise the pieces are pretty similar.

i am thinking now that we can put more clamp pressure on the pan maybe using the paper gasket coated lightly w adhesive might be the way to go.

any thoughts?

On all the motors Ihor and I have built over the years using the brace, we've had the best results using a liberal coating of The Right Stuff silicone, no gasket.

That got me to thinking about my Machine Elements class...Hmmm????

I will guess that the best leak free install will be with out the gasket ,as I have done as well .I put one together with a new gasket waited cure time and added oil .The thing leaked before I started it the first time.

I've used a JDM baffle/brace and Right Stuff for quite a while without problem. This one is aluminum, you can get them in stainless too...it's 8.3mm thick. I used longer motormount and pan bolts.

do you need a spcer where the engine mounts go or do you leave it without to havemore downforce in that area (cfr leaking oil pans)

The brase goes under the motor mounts to reinforce that area as well .

How much is it?

Why do you need a baffle ( windage tray ) when the shaft is not spinning in the oil ? The baffle / brace may be more of a brase, stiffener than a baffle .That will be good if sealed well sence it will need to be sealed on both sides ,double the area .At what power level do we need a stiffener ? I do think that part is good even at lower power levels than needed to stop motor flex .I looked at the idea ,seen for first gens in the Racing Beat book .To stop oil leaks I thought one surface to seal will have less of a chance to leak . My motor may not have the power to flex sense it does not leak .

I've had the stainless version installed on my daily driver for about 5 years now without any problem and I beat the hell out of my car. I'ts set up for high bottom end torque. If I rememeber right ...it initally put out ~200FT lbs@4000RPM. I'm running 9.7:1 rotors, stock tension bolts and dowels. ...I also tapped and installed thicker pan bolts on irons.

This design should help with preventing oil from sloshing side to side during turns. I'm still running the OMP and can burn a quart during a long hard canyon run, so it helps to have as much of the oil as possible at the pickup.

You can get them from Yahoo Japan auctions. ~$200 for stainless shipped and $150 aluminum.

...by properly using Right Stuff w/no gasket, you can pretty much eliminate pan leaks even with a completely stock setup, no brace....IMO.

I just got my brace from David today! The quality is terrific. I can't wait to get my car out of storage and put it on. I looking forward to no more oil spots on my garage floor!
