the Ganador GD730 titanium exhaust
So I battled a 75 minute one way drive to LAX yesterday to go pick up my "freight" at the logistics company, clear customs, and lug this home.
I didnt see anyone ever mention this, so I thought I'd post up. 80mm pipe, 120mm tip. full titanium ~12lbs. nice fitment on th epics you linked. The tip doesn't look out of place like the greddy even though I think they are both 120mm. Was it over 1K to get it if you don't mind me asking (130000 yen about $1300 as an estimate).

very nice, I was thinking about getting the RE-A but decided not to, now I regret not getting it since it looks like he stopped making it, it is not on the site anymore

I came across a pretty good deal. This exhaust was used with 1000km on it, and was sold on yahoojp. Auction ended at about 55,000yen; after a 15% commission fee for a middle man (since the seller wouldnt ship internationally), and approx a $365 air freight charge, the total rounded up to ~$914. Came shipped in its original box, a new gasket, the JASMA card for the exhaust, and a Ganador sticker haha ^_^. I assume at Ganador's site listing the exhaust at 135450, it probably would have ran around $1500 shipped if I had bought it new.
I really hope to get this on this weekend, when I do I'll post sound clips and let you guys know what I think :) |

sorry guys- my equipment's pretty crappy, but its better than nothing! (i think). Its funny really, when I picked up this car in march of 06, the previous owner had a stock dp, a stock (and ridiculously dead) cat, and a thermal exhaust. When i switched to the hks dp & the smb metallic substrate cat, the car got a bit deeper, and slightly quieter.
Switching from the thermal to the Ganador, its gotten quieter yet. The exhaust note sounds a little more "tin-ish" because of the thinner wall tubing (which i expected). Hey, what's your idle vacuum and rpm at? It sounds kinda... low.

around 1100 idle rpm, if I did my mmhg -> psi conversion right, vacuums around 13.

How many mmHg are you pulling? 320? You should probably get it compression tested. Mine was right about what you're pulling, and it just gave up after 3 months. Do you have hot start issues?

13 is not the worst...not the best by any stretch either. I was pulling 10 when mine went bye bye

:shrug: the car has a fairly high mileage motor, i wouldnt be surprised if a rebuild is in order in the not too distant futre. but its still going so far. compression test checked out fine about a year ago, slightly low - but still within spec...ive put about 4k miles on it since. i can check it again soon. |
If you're going to rely on it, 13 is not fine. It could go within a few months. Mine went in about 3 months and 1000 miles for no good reason. I didn't exceed 5lbs of boost after knowing that I was low on compression in an attempt to preserve my engine, but even then it didn't last too long.
Run a compression test. I guarantee one rotor will be around 90, the other will be below 90. I brought mine to Mazda for a compression test, and I had 8kg for the front and 6kg for the rear. Just last weekend, a friend brought his car to KDR for a tune. His engine was pulling 320mmHg at around 1000rpm also. KDR suspected low compression and did a compression test, it was 90 in the front and 20 in the rear. He was advised against getting it tuned on the dyno because it would probably blow up. Even then, we drove another 500 miles before we got home. I think it's still running, but it's living on borrowed time. I suggest getting a rebuild sooner than later, because chipped apex seals can destroy housings and turbine wheels. |
