FWD tranny?

are there any FWD trannies that would bolt right up to a FD engine?

surfmon 12-05-07 02:22 PM

why

There have been many threads in the past asking the same question, however no one has really done the research to found out. Here's the link I gave someone to figure out if they had something:

http://www.kennedyeng.com/

However, they never reported back if they ever continued on with their project. I'm assuming you are looking to do what the past few guys wanted to do: build a kit car which uses a FWD layout, but stick a rotary in it?

I know alot of people use rotary engines for sand cars but they all use either a volkswagon tranny or volkswagon style aftermarket tranny. My buddy has a sand rail that runs a turbo 13b in his and he got the adapter plate and clutch set up from Colorado Sand Cars in Fort Collins,CO. Hope this helps whatever your looking for.

he could be making something midmounted, that would use a "fwd" tranny, would it not?

yup a sandrail adapter plate for a bus box is about the only thing ive seen. I know Kennedy Engineering Products might sell the plate, but to anything other than a bus or bus style trans I just don't know.

agreed!

it should fit and would sound awesome...i might consider doing that in the future. already has the rear wheel factor and is mid engine placement. awesome combination, thx for the idea. it would also help with the fact fiero engines have the tendency to overheat and catch fire.

FD's are not necessarily known for being immune to fire either. Mazda had the cooling system recall early on from a few burning up (coolant is flammable). Not to mention failing FPD's.
