funny statistics on fd reliabilty

I just was messing around and msn had a thing to click "is your car reliable" i entered my fd.. its pretty funny how they rate it.. check it out

That is so sick that you did the same thing I did about two hours ago, I saw that reliability link on MSN and I just HAD to know how the FD did. I was very surprised, apparently they must have had a test pool of one car that sat in a garage. :)

paw140 06-16-03 06:33 PM

Their sample size is so small that they can't get an accurate rating of the reliability. I've seen that rating before and couldn't help but laugh! :)

DaedelGT 06-16-03 06:38 PM

Haha! Great stuff.

Recipe7 06-16-03 06:56 PM

whats so funny! they are right....~snicker~

BLKTOPTRVL 06-16-03 07:59 PM

Just goes to show how unreliable most information available through the internet is.

rx7racer11 06-16-03 09:55 PM

i should show that reliabilty thing to a warrentee company and get a warrenty cheap heheheh

ZeroBanger 06-16-03 11:38 PM

yea that AC shit is expensive. Forget about the 5K + to put a new engine in the car every 2 years (or less), but that 25 - 50 bucks for the R12 is nuts

G Goodman 06-22-03 08:30 AM

their price for r-12 is actually low it goes for roughly $1200 for thirty pounds.

GoodfellaFD3S 06-22-03 11:45 AM

That's utterly ridiculous. I think once I'm at the shop I'll print that sucker up and hang it in the showroom :D

RICKRX7 06-22-03 12:27 PM

I know I can not be the only owner of a reliable FD.
I take that back, my electric antenna makes a squealing sound when it goes up or down.:)

What kinda twins? stock? sequential, hells no. Non-sequential, maybe :). I'd like to think that my parallel BNR Stage 3, non p/s and non a/c beast is about as reliable as Ihor's GT35/40, for example.

wonder1and 06-22-03 01:38 PM

funny how I saw it in his hands the other day... the turbo that is w/ some fin blades that had be "clipped" by something other than what is supposed to do it. :D
oh and on the reliability deal...
I can make mine non P/S and A/c by removing my belt... and then put it back on when I want it :p: Hey rich you wanna buy my big turbo and stick it on your car...? I don't take Iraqi currency though

rex4x 06-23-03 12:22 PM

check out consumerreports. com, they seem to give a slightly more accurate report.

Shouldn't make fun of other's misfortunes :nono:

And I'll whip your skinny ass with my upgraded twins, thanks--you can keep your snail :).

artguy 06-23-03 02:18 PM

lmao

rx7racer11 06-23-03 02:48 PM

like i said i should print this up and goto a wareentee comapny with it and try to get a cheap warrantee.. and well... then just drive cuz something is bound to break every thousand miles.. :p:

mightymikee 06-23-03 02:57 PM

Now this thread concerns me.... I am about to buy a '93 and just how reliable is it?

Rather than laugh at you (although tempting ;) ) I will instead offer help. Please PM me the details of the 7 you're contemplating buying and I'll tell you what I know :).

rx7racer11 06-23-03 06:04 PM

buying a fd is like a box of chocolates... you never know what your gunna get

mightymikee 06-23-03 07:35 PM

so what is just so unreliable about it? I want to know the specifics. As mazda advertises with rx8 that rotary should be more reliable than piston engine b/c there are less moving parts.

so what makes it so unreliable?

basically, being a twin turbo system makes it somewhat less reliable. mainly because of the complicated hosing system that can go awry and be difficult to diagnose and because it makes it more dangerous for the apex seals. The rx-8 will likely be more reliable than the FD.
