Full Airbag Delete?

Hi all,
I've got an aftermarket steering wheel, so no airbag. I've seen some threads (particularly race/track builds) that refer to a "full" Airbag delete. I assume this refers to sensors, computers, or other airbag-specific dedicated type stuff.

Is there a diagram/accounting of all this stuff to which I could refer?

Thanks!

Not that I know of, but it's not that hard. If you find airbag stuff, remove it :). The computer is up under the dash above the transmission tunnel, and the sensors and wiring are pretty obvious.

You will have to do some minor wiring work for the horn to work, a few minutes with the shop manual should figure that out for you.

I'm not very bright. You'd be surprised what isn't obvious to me when I look at it.

Unless you are turning it into a time trial car for competition (or a fully stripped race car), I wouldn't bother with the rest of the stuff. It will likely cause you more grief than anything (unless you don't mind wiring work).

I was able to remove the whole airbag wiring from mine. I had to remove the whole dash to get to some of the plugs.

Let's say I'm a glutton for punishment with a weight fetish and a track addiction, and my horn already works.

Its pretty easy really, but you'd need to pull the dash to do it. You will need to run a new wire in the front interior harness for the horn (As the stock one routes through the airbag ecu), other than that, its just opening the loom and removing what you do not need.

This is all I didn't need from that harness:

The airbag ecu and wiring is on the left.

Crash sensors are easy to remove, just follow the wiring, it runs with the wiring harness under the fenders and comes through a separate bung above & behind the fender the vents.

HTH.

there should be 3 airbag sensors - 1 at the front near the hood latch and one under each front fender iirc.

from there, there should be an airbag ecu under the dash. probably near the center where the hvac thing is. that's where it was on the miata. check the fsm for location.

the last step should be the hardest - the wiring from the connectors in the engine compartment to the airbag ecu. that's a pita.
