Fuel pump to line advice needed...
 

Ok I havent figgured out a decent solution yet so I want to know what others have done. I have a new twin fuel pump hanger that uses -6 lines and fittings along with the stock denso pumps. Cool, but the stock denso pumps are not -6, they are closer to -5 (5/16") and too large for -4an line -> -6 adapter. First off can anyone confirm the correct stock line size for the denso pumps?

Right now I have -6 line. Is there any way for me to take up the slack around the larger line (adapt larger line to the smaller denso nipple?). Simply tightening it around the nipple makes me nervous as it doesnt seat too well at all and may very well leak. :scratch: found some pricey adapter fittings... but need submersible line to match http://www.summitracing.com/parts/AEI-15635/ I was hoping I could simply wrap something around the denso nipples

Lastly (as a side note) where can I find gasoline proof/resistant wire to wire up this mother? :nod:

Yeah I read over that.... hes using 3/8" hose but i'm worried about leaks cause the nipple really should take 5/16" hose. I'm wondering if i can wrap the nipple in gas proof PTFE tape (the yellow stuff). I have submersible hose (3/8") its just not snug on the pump outlet :(

Also I'm still clueless after searching for idk how long trying to find fuel proof/resistant wiring. I'm quite stumped. I should post up a pic of everything

So, does anyone know where to find gasoline proof wire? I'm pretty sure since its going to be submerged that it needs to be specifically rated for gasoline. last thing you want is to have your insulators break down inside your gas tank where sparks could occur :D

seriously? no one has re-wired the in-tank section of the fuel pump harness?

I rewired my gas tank with 10ga wire. I know that gas is a conductor, but after exhaustive research on common gasoline rated wire, I gave in. I'm using standard wire. I'll let u know if I explode :-p I think everyone shares your concern but doesn't have a reasonable solution.

Yeah I have been looking for a long time too. I have found some HOME wiring that is rated for submersion in gasoline (solid core not stranded unfortunately)... but strangely for automotive use nada.

The problem is, gasoline will attack certain types of insulators (some rubbers, silicone, etc) they will kinda bulge and "melt" over a few months. Even fuel line rated for gasoline needs to have the outer jacket made of special rubber that wont be affected by gasoline (standard fuel hose will buldge, melt, and fall apart in a matter of months!!). I am using aeroquip hose that has the outer jacket rated for submersion in fuel. Anyway, using the correct stuff for in-tank runs (hose and wire) is extremely important which is why I still haven't got these pumps wired up and installed.

So... Aeroquip "AQP" FC332 (FBV Blue Cover or FBN Black Cover) is a great reinforced hose to use for in tank (really nice stuff)

Now we just need to find the appropriate in-tank wiring, and pass the information around. It really is a safety concern.:icon_tup:

Done. Pricey but done. Local electronics store had gasoline submersible wire, which is abrasion resistant and good up to 270 degrees. Got 50 ft of 14ga in two colors. Downside is it was extremely expensive, but no potential disasters INSIDE the gastank... priceless :D

If anyone is re-wiring the in-tank section of their fuel pumps, or adding new pump(s) this is an absolute MUST. I've got a ton extra and you don't need much so if anyone needs some gas proof wire or hose shoot me a PM and I'll give it to you (relatively) cheap :)
