Fuel pump install
Help. I start on the trunk, remove padding. Remove 4 screws to lift plate to get to pump and lines. I now need to disconnect battery lines.
I am stumped on removing the white connector (non-ground) I can't see if there is a tab that needs to be pushed in. I can't feel one. I had no luck squeezing the sides and trying to remove it. |
the tab will be on the left side of the connector ...squeeze and use your other to help it along... make sure your garage is well ventilated...

Done!
I hope I didn't screw anything up! When I had the assembly out, the float fell off, so I put it back on. I swear the rubber gasket/sleeve didn't want to get pulled down all the way to the top of the pump, so I left it as far as I could get it. The car hesitated, got fuel, then started. Note, I did this on like 1/8 of a tank of fuel, I will have to see what happens with a full tank. I did not replace the big seal/gasket at the top of the tank like the manual says. When I asked my Mazda mechanic what part I would need, he just mentioned the pump, the filter, the 0-ring and plastic collar, and the little metal piece that holds end of the filter down. |
I just did mine yesterday too, but then I was going over the Workshop Manual. I'm missing the O ring. Now I have to open the sucker back up and find an o ring for it. Wondering would any O ring work or is there a specific one?

There is a specific one. this is the one between the top of the pump and where it connects to the fuel line, with a little plastic sleeve, and rubber on the outside? You should have gotten the Mazda part kit that includes the o ring and the plastic sleeve.
Or you should have reused the existing o-ring (not recommended). |
