Fuel Line Pressure Rating Requirements?
 

I'm relocating my stock fuel filter, and I need some 5/16" fuel line. Where should I get it from? Does the local parts shack have something sufficient?

I was looking at McMaster-Carr and they had fuel line in the appropriate size rated to 50psi. Is 50psi enough for a stockish setup?

Tangentially, I'm doing the vacuum hose job. I'm taking steps to reduce under hood heat. Why shouldn't I stick with quality rubber hose? I heard silicon or viton is less resilient, if better for heat. Can I get metal spring clamps small enough to use on the hoses instead of zip ties?

I bought some fuel line from McMaster, it has been working OK for the past couple years and I have my FPR adjusted to run more pressure than the OEM Mazda regulator. I'm pretty sure the line I got was rated for more than 50psi. I will try to dig up the part number.

Try Mazda PN 9928-30-800 (small vacuum clamp) for vacuum / boost lines that you are concerned about. They are used on some of the OEM wastegate & turbo control lines. Only downside is they may be too small to fit around certain thick aftermarket vacuum lines. They are pretty inexpensive, from what I remember.

You must use fuel injection rated hose SAE J30R9, it will have a working pressure of 100psi. Goodyear and a few others make hose to this spec. Your local parts store should carry fuel injection hose, it will be around $4/ ft

50 psi is not even close to enough. Make sure it is labeled "for fuel inejction". It should be clearly marked on the hose.

In terms of raw technical specifications, Viton is probably overkill.

HOWEVER, it is a joy to work with and provides very secure connections to the stock (unbarbed) pipes.

ZIP ties were popular about a decade ago on FDs but IMHO are useless. The car I bought had and entire set and they hoses slid off easily with them. Once the rubber hardens the ZIP ties are just extra clutter. ZIP ties or hose clamps would only really make sense if the stock pipes were barbed.

Yes, Viton is a litter harder to get on, but once it is on it is going nowhere.

Thanks, guys. I'll check the parts store and see if they're got fuel injection hose. I thought 50psi seemed inadequate. Will check into viton for the hose job.
