Fuel Injector Cleaner

I recently purchased some fuel injector cleaner. Its the type you add to your gas. My questions are: this fluid contains methyl alcohol and the directions specifically say that you shouldn't add this solution to a fiberglass tank, does the third gen have a fiberglass tank? and my second question is: is this stuff ok to use in a rotary engine?

thanks in advance

Pour it in, it's okay. I don't know of any fiberglass gas tanks on cars. Fiberglass shatters and cracks upon impact so it's stupid to use it for a gas tank. Imagine a car accident with 18 gal tank free flowing.

I've good luck using the Techron and have heard good results with the Redline SI-1. Others that I have used yielded little results.

Sea Foam also works wonders. It is about $5 a bottle but it has made it's self worth it's weight many times. When I first bought my BMW the RPM would waiver at idle, but after I ran Sea Foam through it evened right out.

Many fuel injector cleaners aren't worth the bottles they come in.
Although they won't do any harm, they won't do much good either.

There are only 3 I've either used or had recommended by people I respect. They are Redline, BG Products 44 K, and Chevron Techron, but only the full fuel system cleaner, not the less concentrated fuel injector cleaner.

Mazda recomends AGAINST using any Fuel Injector Cleaners
Methanol based cleaners are practically worthless and some of the others actually LOWER the octane rating of the gas - not a good thing for a turbo rotary.

i hear your suppost to put in fuel injector cleaner in before you change your oil so the deposits off your injectors will be cleaned out after you change your oil. is this true or not?

No kidding. Here's a little Sea Foam story. Since my car is on the skids, I drive my beloved 89 Grand Voyager minivan (Mistu V6) with 204,000 original miles (still kicking up dirt!) around school and 250 miles across the state home every now and then. I noticed on my trip home over Thanksgiving break that it was taking 3/4 tank (20 gal tank) to get me home those 250 interstate miles. I didn't like that. So when I was at home I bought some Sea Foam, having never tried it before. My brother and I ran the bottle through the throttle body of the van. On the way back there was a huge accident on the interstate about an hour from my house, so I sat in it about 30 minutes and decided to take some super curvy mountain backroads. For 60 miles or more I was going up and down mountains, on-off throttle, and driving like me (seriously outrunning the Eclipse behind me who asked if he could follow ... in a 13 year old minivan). The entire trip back was 350 miles or so, but guess how much gas it took? A little LESS than 3/4 tank! And I put premium in that van because it is so old (computer timing responds to it better).

I don't like tank additives really. Most of them are as good as water anyways, but I also don't like the idea of compromising the gas mixture, especially in a car as demanding of proper fuel delivery as the FD. I don't like the idea of compromising the fuel under a load (traffic, driving) ... I'd rather it all get taken care of at once while the vehicle is at rest without a load. Plus it's diluted in the gas ... largely for the purpose of not damaging the motor in the first place ... so really one should ask how effective is it in the fuel tank?

I'm another SeaFoam believer. I get it at my local NAPA stores.

mazda dealers used to sell an injector cleaner for the rx-7, but it is no longer available.

My Mazda dealership has recommended, sold for at least the last eight years, and is still selling BG Products 44K. I add a can once a year and have had no fuel related problems. This is the only product that will open a clogged injector. Most, if not all, the fuel system cleaners are a waste of money.
