Fuel cut or ignition cut?

Well, I have been debating this in my own head for a while and I'm still not sure what the correct answer is...for an FD, when you hit the 'rev limiter' at ~7k rpm, what exactly is it doing? Is the ECU cutting fuel? Is the ECU cutting ignition?

The reason this came up is that since the rotary engine is so picky about leaning out and detonation, wouldn't it make sense that the ECU would simply apply an *ignition* cut when you hit that point? This would yield a richer-than-normal mixture, which alleviates the possibility of dangerous detonation. This would seem like the smart thing to do, but I'm really not sure if that's how it's set up.

So, for those that know for sure, step up and let us know.

Tks,

I think the "REV" limiter (8500rpm for 5 spd, 7500rpm Auto) is a IGNITION cut, However the BOOST limiter is a FUEL cut, to the REAR rotor only at about 14.5psi.

Hmm, this seems like a less than ideal situation...good that they cut ignition at a certain RPM level, but BAD that they cut fuel at higher boost...wouldn't that make detonation *far* more likely?! Gah, I'll take a six pack of remanufactured engines please.

*bump* anyone else have any input on this? I'm curious to see if there's any documentation on this anywhere...

Good question.. why a fuel cut at the most crucial time for fuel, under max boost? And why one rotor? To induce drag and lower RPM?
