Front Stack Question
 

On the first Thrust washer closest to the front stationary gear, does the bevel of the thrust washer face down towards the motor, or up towards the main pulley? I'm pretty sure it's the same as the front gear and the bevel is suppose to face down towards the motor but I wanted to make sure.

down towards the e-shaft. flat side up towards the main pulley :)

Okay, how about this one....:lol:

stationary gear in, thrust bearing in, thrust washer in, and then when I put the plate over top of all this, before I went to bolt it down I noticed there was a gap between the plate and the stationary gear., The plate is being held up above the top of the stationary gear by the washer and bearing.

Now I thought the bearing was suppose to "float" but how the hell is it suppose to move at all when I bolt this down? You can see the gap in the picture, and it isn't enough to "crush" the bearing and washer, but it's obviously going to put a good amount of torque on them. Is this normal? Or do I have the wrong thrust washer, which the two washers are obviously completely different so I'm sure I have the right washer.


If that is how it's suppose to be, what are the torque specs on the plate bolts?

And not that I don't trust you as I would take your word as the word of God on these cars :lol: , but why does it show in the FSM that the needle bearing goes before the washer?

Oh, I have the motor sitting on a table without anything holding it off the table. Is my gap being produced because it is pushing everything up just a tad because of it sitting on the flywheel?

Answered my own question. :iwstupid:

I'm ordering a stand and adapter before I do anything else.

The thrust washer that you were asking about (the one with the bevel) definitely goes first. Then the needle bearing sits on top of the washer, then you bolt the plate down over the needle bearing.

A stand is a good idea, but you can always just rotate the motor 90 degrees (so it's oriented as it sits in the engine bay) to bolt down the stat gear. the needle bearing will fall down a bit, but once you set the motor back on the flywheel you can use a pick to orient the needle bearing so that the spacer fits inside it.

Yeah, it makes alot more sense for the washer to go after the stat gear, but that is a major oops in the FSM because they show it going in the wrong way. I wasn't doubting you. :squint: :lol: :rofl:

I'd rather just have a stand so I can flip it while working. The table I have it on is kinda wide, so I'm almost have to reach for everything.
