Front mounted intercooler vs Temp
Hello!!
If i put a front mount intercooler will my car run cooler??? I use the car in the city with hi traffic and i'm scared that the front mount intercooler will penalty the water temp at low speed. In the traffic is already a problem, the engine go a little bit hot. Let me know please. Thanks |
first. . . do some searches. . . second, the fmic is known to make cars run hotter yes. . . so if youre worried. . . go smic

Pietrino, do a search. There are many many threads covering this subject.
My own opinion is unless this is a dedicated drag car, a front mount is probably not a good idea where heat is a problem and the car is for daily street use with lots of traffic. Lots of folks say otherwise but unless you live in colder areas, the simplest and safest course for a street car is a large stock mount. |

Fmic + Aftermarket rad = daily driven car even in hot summers. If you feel that you want even lower temps, get a vented hood and you'll be fine.

A FMIC works great in the city. The electric cooling fans can keep the temp in check and the intercooler core does not get heat soaked from the radiator -especially with the units that sit in front of the cross member.
Where FMICs are not good is on the highway. The cooling fans do not move enough air to keep up with the motor under boost for sustained time. I solved this problem with my direct feed duct that I posted about previously. I am very happy with this setup. The only remaining downside is that there is a lot of extra pipe volume to pressurize compared to a stock mount. It really amuses me that people believe a V-mount is a great setup for stop and go. Heat rises and the IC is above the radiator! |

Heat rises and the IC is above the radiator! this puzzles me because i noticed at least a 5-7F degree drop on the highway..usually when im on the highway, i have the fans off and when i enter the city, i turn them on..could it only for certain setups? |
At 65-75 it's fine, but at 85-90 for sustained time the temps climb into the mid 90s, and when I had to slow down and speed back up due to traffic the temps would climb past 100C without the direct feed duct.
