Front essentric shaft bolt removal

I'm trying to take apart my rotary so that i can part it out. i removed the rear plate, rear rotor and rotor housing. Now it seems i cannot dismantle any further until I remove the essentric shaft... is that correct? If so, what is the best way to remove that front essentric shaft bolt if I no longer have a flywheel to grip? Thanks!

Just use a 1/2" impact gun.. Should come off with now prob. If it don't just install the flywheel and key to stop the shaft from spinning... use any rx-7 flywheel..

actually that bolt can be a mofo to get off. Many times a impact gun wont cut it if there is not enough tourqe.

I stood on the end of a 4 foot breakerbar extension pipe bouncing up and down trying to get that bitch off.

Hopefully it will be a painless expirience for you. If not, try spraying some pb blaster around the bolt or trying heating up the area around the bolt with a tourch, or get a badass impact gun.

not having that flywheel can make things alot harder, usually best to start dismantling the front of the engine first.

Good luck :)

haha, yeah, hindsight is always 20/20 :). i'll have to borrow an impact wrench and see what i can do... thanks for the input guys!

Heat the hell out of it with a torch, get it glowing good and red. Mapp torch works great, propane will work but takes longer. Make sure it cooks the thread locker in there really good. Then let it cool. Thats what usually works for me. I would say at least 50% of the time my 650 ft*lb impact wont get the bolt without heating it.

If it is a 3rd gen motor you will need to put the flywheel back on. I tried various methods without it once and didn't have any luck. Besides that just use a long breaker bar. When I do it i have about 8 feet of leverage and it comes off with ease.

:) If only it was that easy. Use a serious impact gun. One with 600ftlbs minimum in reverse. Heat the hell out of it with a torch, and have at it. This may still not work. If it comes to using a breaker bar then you will need lots of help holding the engine down or you will need to be creative about finding a way to keep it from flipping over when you put your weight on it. If it is an original engine from mazda then I wish you the best:wallbash:
