Front cover gasket?
Alright, I know that my FD needs a new front cover gasket. As far as I know, the car is in good condition other than that... Good compression, just tested last Sept. But I met a group of guys who wanted to see what the car could do, and they sent their best car against my FD. It was a modded SHO. I told them that the car wasn't in 'racing condition' at the moment, but they seemed cool about everything and just wanted to see it run. I got destroyed by about 5 car lengths.... How much power am I losing from this gasket?? would it be that much?
I have full exhaust and intake, thats it. |
A bad front cover gasket would just create a messy oil leak. Are you talking about a bad lower intake manifold gasket? If so, you'd lose quite a bit of power from it.
Gasket is only like $20, but installation is a bitch - pull turbos, etc. Dale |
what boost are you running? Like Dale said, the front cover wouldn't drop your HP, unless your PCV is stuck open, letting boosted air into the oil pan/ front cover area and then out the leak. What kind of SHO?

Well, I'm almost certain it is the front cover gasket. The car is showing 12 lbs of solid boost on the stock twins. If this gasket isn't where I'm losing the power from, I have no idea what it would be.

12 psi solid with full intake and exhaust, what ecu? what vacuum are you pulling? You might be making 280ish to the wheels. If the engine's tired and worn out, then your hp and also miles per gallon will be less as well.
