front caliper is frozen
 

hey guys,

well i was checking my 93 fd today and to see if there were and thing that needed to be done before state inspection, everything seemed okay until i tryed to rotata my front left wheel by hand it it was stuck, i know that the caliper is frozen/stuck as one might call it, well i was wondering if theres a way to "unstuck" it, im thinking about removing the calipre and pushing the pistons back to see if it will get stuck again. any ideas?

That's just what I would do. If it's messed up, I'd just get a good used caliper and replace it.

You sure the pads aren't just rusted to the rotor? Has it been driven in a while?

i put new pads and rotors on the car last month the pistons went back in fine, its all new brakes and the car gets driven 2-3 times a week.

I had this exact problem i would be driving down the rode and they would get stuck after braking and i would feel them holding my damn car back. I rebuilt the calipers and it stopped rebuild kit is cheap and easy plus it gives you an excuse to paint them.

that sounds like something i would try to do. did u do both or just the stuck one. where did you buy the rebuild kit?

Driving it will likely break it loose.

yea but its holding the car back quite a bit i dont want to overheat the rotor and pads, they are new, also the car wont roll down a small hill in neutral its holding it like im aon the brake pedal a little bit.

Did you check your brake pedal adjustment to make sure it's not pre-loading the MC? Just a thought as I've seen people (not necessarily on here) adjust their pedal with worn brake pads. When new brake pads are installed, since they are full thickness they end up dragging on the rotors from the adjusted brake pedal that was done on worn pads.

I did all the brakes the kits are on mazda trix. I didnt have new pads though so it kinda sounds like the adjustment is wrong like Mahjik said.

I had just the smallest amount of rust on the piston lead to jammed up brakes!!

emery cloth did mine wonders, or even 1500 grit wet sand paper... clean everything!!!!!

then clean again...

the pedal is ok i never toche it but its only doin it to the right front wheel.

looks like ill be doing what just did if it does not work for me then i will get the rebuild kit, like yourmom23 did

Did you open the bleeder to see if it still had pressure?

have fun bleeding the brakes its a royal pain in the ass to get them good, better just buy a speed bleeder.
