so She's alive! kind of.. and for the longest time my 94 single turbo converted fd is running again. however i am having a few issues that i was hoping i could get some imput on what they could be. the basic setup is T04r, full emissions delete, fmic, 550 pri/1680sec, stock port, no belt on PS/AC yet (damn power steering nut).

now the issues I'm seeing/hearing are as follows...

-loud ticking sound from engine (passenger side is more noticeable)
(almost a deisel sound so ruling out injectors. exhaust mani leak? chucked a seal?)

-small amount of faint white smoke that looks like its coming up from the lower turbine side of the turbo
(oil feed is working and not leaking)

-seems like engine is overheating as bracket where the air pump used to be is hot to the touch after a 15min idle
(aftermarket coolant temp gauge coming in soon)

-start up surging
(will surge and sometimes stall but after it warms up and the tstat opens its idle smooth at 950-1000rpm range. today had a small puff of white smoke but only lasted maybe half a second)

any help is greatly appreciated!

- The ticking noise is most likely an exhaust leak. Also, some single turbo manifolds are relatively thin gauge stainless, they just naturally have a "ping" sort of sound.

- White smoke could either be coming from that exhaust leak or just simply grease/fingerprints/etc. that were on the turbo and manifold that is now burning off. Not uncommon to get smoke from a turbo after it's been off the car and handled.

- Your "hot to the touch" temp gauge is so far from accurate, that's not telling you anything. EVERYTHING under the hood gets hot to the touch. What does the stock temp gauge in the car say? If it's in the middle, you're not overheating.

- Surging could be TPS, stuck ISC, PFC not adjusted right...many things. That's no biggie.
