Nice find bro!!! I know that alot of people use the honda 51R battery and love it, but that one seems even better. I just wonder what the CCA are on it? But either way, very nice find.

hoping you guys would like that. id get one but i ahve a perfect honda battery in the garage since i have honda shit all over with my mazda crap:)

Would you happen to know which of those batteries that you showed would be the one to use for our FD's?
|
Do a seach on 51R batteries:). 10lbs lighter than stock. I've got bolt-in SS trays that fits FDs like a glove.

Jeff,
Jon (SCRX7) linked me up with your new tray batch that you are making and I'm planning on picking one up. I wasn't sure of the availability of them though. Wanna clue me in?? Zach |
this one is claiming to be 50 lighter than a stocker battery for the 51's and it will have more power. just have to use my free on first:)

I think Oddysey PC680 is good enough.
That is what I got, made my own alluminum tray. To fit like n-tech kit...gotta start the car every two weeks though to keep it alife... Reza |
If the 680 seems a little punky to you (you basically get one start) try the PC 925. You still save about 20 lbs over stock, and it is alot smaller. won't quite fit w/ an M2 large IC, but you'll save alot, and can fit in a trimmed-down stock battery tray. Can be had for about $100.

That's a nice battery. Would it work w/ the FD?
Anyone trid those Dynabat batteries. They're pretty small. I've seen one on an FD before... |

Originally posted by suprfast just thought i would pass this on to the people looking to keep it small. found it on a honda site, as i do have a honda that i like to play with too. http://www.c-speedracing.com/onlinestore/main.php kris It's rated at only 280 cca's and 28 min RC. The 51R is about 500 cca's, and 80 min RC. The #680 type batteries should have an internal metal jacket, for higher temperature rating for under hood use. Also convenient to get with sae posts, about $12 extra in this link. http://www.batterymart.com/battery.mv?p=ODY-PC680MJ this type of battery often does not come with metal jacket or sae posts. |
I am using the 680MJ and tried to buy the replacement kit from N-Tech but he wouldn't sell it to me, since I didn't buy the battery from him.
I almost bought the the 925 ("link") but it looked even shallower than the 680 and I wanted it tied down. Well I had to use a hockey puck to tie down the 680 but it still comes loose with sprited driving and I don't have it tied down at all now. :( TurboJeff: How bout making a tie down kit for the 925 and a relocation kit for the Honda 51R battery to the rear bin? :bigthumb: |
I don't know if the market is big enough to warrant making a 925 tray.
The 51R is a standard lead-acid battery, not really a good idea to have that inside the car:). Jeff |
i am curently using the PC680, and i am going to be changin to the 925.

Jeff Lead acid? Yikes, no way am I using that then but what about the sealed Miata battery for your kit? http://www.batteryweb.com/miata.cfm http://www.batteryweb.com/miatabat.jpg |
In the bin or in the engine compartment? I've heard some guys are actually using it in the engine compartment with my tray. So it does fit from what I've heard.

PC 925 Battery trays
Just in case anyone's interested, I made a few battery trays for my PC925 before I moved it into the storage bin... they fit the 925 perfectly when it's mounted on its side, and allow you to use the stock tie-downs.. If they'd be of interest to anyone, I'll give them away for the price of shipping. You can see pics HERE . PM me for more info.

what are the benefits of the SAE terminals?
I plan on relocating the battery...should I go through the trouble for the metal jacket? if i don't get SAE terminals (someone explain these...are these the ones i'm used to seeing on all batteries) how do I use the screw on type? |
Re: Re: found a small battery, what do you think
Originally posted by KevinK2 This is same size as the #680 used in the N-Tech kit. (nick was going to use the popular #925 26ah type, but I got him onto the lighter 680). It's rated at only 280 cca's and 28 min RC. The 51R is about 500 cca's, and 80 min RC. |
FYI, Beware when you switch to a small battery, you might run into problems. I use the odessy 680. When i let the car sit for 5-6 days, I have to jump or re-charge my battery just to start the car. I think it's due to the factory alarm's drain on the battery. Although, I could be wrong and have some other battery drain elsewhere.

how come you have problems, but hondas don't have any starting problems and they come w/ small batteries stock? does this have to do w/ cca whatever that is?
