Found a capacitor...I think?
1 Attachment(s)
So I found this tucked away near the brake fluid reservoir by the firewall.
A google search didnt turn up anything, anyone have any idea what this could be? It reads 250/0.47 R17U C. Attachment 686196 |
It is a condenser. It is to help reduce static in the radio.

Ah. Well thats boring. Was hoping it would help fix some other bugs with the car haha.
Thanks though. You learn something everyday! |
It is normally attached (grounded) to the ignition system ignitor.

if its anything like the FC one ..its actually there to smooth bumps / attenuate out in the oil pressure sensor
.. yes its a 0.47 micro farad cap similar to what is found suppressing radio RFI .. but on the FC.. and i suspect on the FD,, the unit bolted to the firewall near the clutch slave is to slow down spikes in the oil pressure sender |
thats the dilithium crystal diode vaporizor unit used in conjunction with the flux captor which helps in reducing space time continuum irregularities during time travel ... without it you could end up as a single cell amoeba... what ever you do, don't touch it!!!!

It for sure is not a power spike in the car. Anything that might help your radio static should be in the antenna or radio system not on the firewall . Guys take them off and throw them away and then can't figure out why there gauges etc. are erratic . |
Could this be the reason why my oil pressure gauge basically acts like a tach when I rev it?

I saw you had another post regarding wiring problems with your power windows.... This might be a good time to look over your wiring and make sure that there isnt any unnecessary wiring I.E. funny looking splicing for aftermarket car alarms/gauges/stereos ...etc that might be back feeding into the rest of the wiring... when diagnosing electrical problems it is always best to eliminate these things from the equation by disconnecting them. once you are satisfied that they are not the source of the problems you can reconnect them |
I'm also trying to understand what the purpose of this condenser/ground is.
I swapped out to the 1A coils and now have no spark and think I may be experiencing a short in the electrical harness somewhere... blew a fuse ... coils heating up .... weird - scary stuff. Then I found the ground/consender wire was broken. Ordered a new one and will install later this week. |
