fouling plugs

has there been any weird case where when you turning the car on the injector stays open, then closes when you turn the car off... reason i ask is because i keep fouling plugs, and my fuel pressure is holding when i turn the car off. and i get a constant 34 psi with the car on.

p.s. this is my 3rd set in the first 20 miles on my new motor. im getting spark and everything. coils are in specs what you guys think. TPS is in range. one thing i do notice on the PFC is that the trailing and leading in the monitoring on the commander doesnt change equally to eachother. I dont know if its suppost to do that. its a base map. ported motor.

Do you have a wideband?

T88Rx7 02-08-07 01:33 PM

no wideband, and im using the stock 550x850

Mahjik 02-08-07 01:59 PM

What plugs are you running?

Were the injectors cleaned and balanced for the new engine install?

T88Rx7 02-08-07 02:29 PM

no non of that... thats only to make sure your injector is running fine from running less gas...but in my case im running to much i guess

T88Rx7 02-08-07 02:31 PM

im running stock 7s and 9s, it should be ok, i was running all 9s b4 but thosegot fouled too

T88Rx7 02-08-07 03:38 PM

pulled out plugs and trailing are wet and black, and leadings are dry and black... again injectors can be leaking, the pressure gauge shows that it is holding for longer then 15 minutes with the car off. resistance on the wire are good, i checked the coils and that cleared out. anything else you guys can think of?

rynberg 02-08-07 03:42 PM

are you sure it's not oil on the plugs....

T88Rx7 02-08-07 03:45 PM

nope it smells a lot like gas. and is thin like gas

Man I am having somewhat the same problem. I have checked everything that I know of,tps, map, replaced coils, replaced injectors and grommets, battery and alternator, fuel filter, changed oil, went through a ton of wiring, plugs and wires, and an array of others. My trailing plugs have gas literally dripping off of them, and my leadings are usually dry. sometimes I can't even get it to start because it will just flood out. and whenever I can get it to start, it falls on its face and almost dies. If you figure this out let me know.

Yes like wise, i am pretty good at what i do, and this is by far the hardest thing i have ever tried to diagnose.

One thing that I have never checked but wondered about it is the fuel pump resistor. I am pretty sure that it is located somewhere next to the ignitor. I have no idea if this what the problem is but just a thought.

T88Rx7 02-09-07 07:10 AM

why would the fuel pump resistor have anything to do with that

fastyoungone 02-14-07 01:13 PM

hey any updates?

T88Rx7 02-14-07 05:10 PM

i took the plugs out cleaned them with just a cloth and let them air dry while i was at work, then put them back in turn the car on, and did some minor tuning through exhaust smell. I dropped the 1000 rpm pim voltage from its original 100% down to 85%, and took out some fuel in the fuel map on the lowerd rpm range (5x5) area, and car hasnt died out on me yet knock on wood... I just still dont see why my car with a ported motor and stock fuel system running rich. Im only using a 300zx Full pump and took out the pulsation damper

My car has been sitting for over a month now back at home cuz I am 3 hrs away at college. I am in pretty much the same situation. I've got a ported motor also, walboro 255 with the dampner still on and a PFS piggy back. It just decided one day that it wasn't gonna work. The next day it drove fine. The day after, it was back to bein angry again, hasn't worked since. I think that I might just try resetting the computer again and cranking it whenever I go home and hope for the best. The only other thing that I can think to do is just drain the gas and see if I got a bad batch somewhere. I am about 99% that my motor is still good, I don't have any water out my exhaust or on my plugs, and when my plugs are out the compression sounds as good as ever. The motor doesn't shake whenever it does start, just runs rich as hell.

Have you checked your tps voltage, i know you said its new, but it maybe installed out of range.

I never replaced my tps. But yes I have checked the voltage a number of times. I asked on one of my threads if it was possible for a tps to go bad and still read proper volts on both of those wires but never got a response.
