fmic or smic?

I have a 93 fd w/ the r1 package and as far as plans for my car i want to have it as my daily drive more intended for "street applications" i want to shoot for in the 300+hp range and then in the summer work towards a single conversion. I have full 3" exhaust and soon to get either m2 intake or hks rs intake. What should i do? fmic or smic..ive heard mixed things about both soo im not really sure what to do.

I think if you go single i would get a FMIC. I have a SMIC and it works fine. I like it but i'm goin single soon so bigger turbo bigger intercooler. I hear great things about the PF SMIC intercooler if u wnat to get a SMIC

You are going the same route i am. I am hitting somewhere around 300rwhp. I am looking for a very streetable car. As much as I like the sound of going single I think the better streetable package would be upgraded twins like BNR's or 99 spec converted to non-sequential. I have converted and i love it. As far as intercooler goes. If you immediately want to go into something around 15psi then shoot for the front mount. What i am doing is....since i want around 12-13psi right now without cooling problems, i ordered the ebay ic for about $127 shipped. For the price this is a steal. What this does is save money for the future upgrades and gets rid of the stock intercooler that restrics all the airflow and is uncapable of withstanding pressure above 10psi. I guess for now i would go stock mount.

You guys know that this topic has been beaten to death.

Also, you can run HIGH hp with a SMIC. People have put down >400 hp with a SMIC. Look at Goodfellas with his BNR and Large ASP intercooler.

Also, you have to consider if your going to track or drag your car. Some have noticed higher track water temps with a FMIC. If your doing street pulls or drag a FMIC should be fine. However most track guys have noticed an increase in water temps. Most say it's managable, others not.

Also you have to consider what you could "loose" with the FMIC. Some have had to remove there AC or relocated parts to get them to work. Also you probably have to move your battery. Consider that in the expense and time for the switch. For simplicty, a SMIC is the easiest.

What's your budget? You know that you can get 300+ with stock twins or more easily with the BNR's.

If you ARE going for big HP and want a LARGE single....I still think you could go SMIC. FMIC is also fine...more work. You might also want to consider a V-mount.

Only one choice V-mount

From expirience, I hated my FMIC. I lost the instant responcee of the turbos. So if you don't mind having lag and stearing at the temp gauge then go for the FMIC. So my recomendation would be a SMIC or better yet V-Mount.

Second that, V-Mount is the way to go
