Flywheel Step for FD

After searching through 3 pages of results I have yet to find an answer. All of the threads seem to die out with no answer. So...

...does anyone know the correct step for our Flywheels? I have an aftermarket flywheel and I've heard rumors that one type of flywheel (Centerforce) came with no step. I'll be calling ACT tomorrow but if anyone, for the love of God, actually knows...

...it would benefit all!

i wish i knew what you were talking about since im in the market for a flywheel/clutch assembly

Do you mean key?

He is talking about the step between the pressure plate mounting surface and the contact surface for the clutch. A good flywheel shop should have the measurement in a book.

I noticed the FSM did not even list a step spec. However, when I used to cut/grind flywheels at the shop, I just measured the step before I would cut it. Just use a piece of stock and record what you have with a caliper. Then cut it and re-measure what the step is. After you get an idea cut the step down to what you measured before. Bing bam boom.

Ive done this countless times with great results. Its easier with a brake lathe, but not as good as grinding do to hotspots.

Hope this helps.

Hi Lawyer thanks for the tip.

@solareon - My machinist has the books and that is the problem All other rotary flywheel steps are listed...nothing for the FD. This guy does all the work for most of the serious track guys in town (not that any of them are rotary guys) and suggest an approach similar to what Lawyer suggested. He was quite surprised the step was not listed in his books as well.
